Why do people bother listing things that are going to sell for about £1 on ebay?
Am I missing something – doesn’t it cost about that much to put something up there? Or do you get discounts if you put lots of things up? Like people selling baby clothes individually as opposed to in a bundle, things that will go for around £1 – you’ll probably make more but don’t you have to pay much more to list everything seperately?

I don’t get it either.
Just like people on Craiglist (not sure if you have that in the UK)
Most craigslist ads are pick-up only.
No shipping, pick up and pay in cash.
People list sh-t for a dollar, and I don’t know who on earth is going to drive out and pick up something up for a dollar.
It’s usually really crappy stuff anyway.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrifty, but I’m not wasting my time driving 20 minutes to pick up a used baby bib for a dollar. Ya know?
If you sell 10,000 items at a pound a piece, you’ll have 10,000 pounds…right?
Some people want to just get rid of the stuff, others charge alot for shipping and have a low sell fee
Because there’s always the chance that some idiot with a lot of money will bid high on something ridiculous, as is what happens /a lot/ on Ebay.
if you look closer they will usually sell lots of items for low amounts equals lots in the end
they do it in hopes of making money on the shipping
people jsut want to get rid of things they have laying around or do not use sometimes and this is an easy way to do it. plus on ebay there is a chance of getting more for the item than what you put if you have it up for bid.
People list things at a low price hoping that bidding will drive the final selling price up. There is, of course, the risk that either no one or few people will bid on it and the item won’t sell or the seller will operate at a loss is selling the item.
Some people think, too, that some sellers will overstate the shipping cost and list the item at a very low price. Since people will often disregard the cost of shipping and pay attention only to the "deal" that they’re getting on the item.
they enjoy it and then sell it
