Most things I get from Babies R US (love/hate relationship with that store), Target or Amazon.com – to choose I generally looked at reviews of the products on both Babies R Us and Amazon.com – for the most part I think the reviews are pretty spot on (except for the ocassional rant)
I got things between 20-35 weeks pregnant. The most I got were at my two baby showers. However, to be honest…I got the most stuff I actually USED after my son was born….
Ebay and Kiddicare, Kiddicare is a UK website but I’m sure there is a US alternative, things are discount priced and the delivery was free. You also got free stuff thrown in (usually little essentials like wash cloths, muslins and a few toys) when you spent over a certain amount. You can new things on ebay, from the shop floor or quick sell of old stock. Great bargains to be had!!
I got all my stuff all over the place. Walmart, Target, a few things at Babies R Us but they are too pricey…I got some stuff from friends, Big Lots…
i got all my sons things from babies r us, walkmart and target mostly.
i also got a lot of stuff at my baby shower.
didnt really do online shopping since you can usually find a better selection by actually going into the stores. I did a lot of comaprison shopping to find the best deal.
things i would never buy second hand are: car seat, crib, mattress. i dont even like hand me down clothing. i dont know why. it just kind of grosses me out for some reason.
Some things were hand-me-downs. My fiances aunt had the crib she just bought for her grand daughter which the little girl refused to use! Some cloths were hand-me-downs from my fiances friend that just recently had a little girl. You could never tell any of the cloths had been worn as babies go threw them so fast! Alot of stuff we got at our baby showers (I had 2 as I missed the one my fiances mother had for me. I was in the hospital that day trying to have my contractions stopped. After that my mother decided to throw one just her side of the family since I had NEVER been to a baby shower and I missed my own!) Their nothing wrong with used baby items. Their cheaper and will more then likely be in good shape as babies grow out of things so quickly.
Some advice.. If you plan to have a baby shower I wouldn’t buy any cloths, bath towels, wash cloths, baby soap and lotion or anything along them lines. I thought we would go ahead and buy so we had enough. Needless to say I have way to much for my daughter as I got most of that stupid plus more at my shower.

I get alot of my sons stuff from Target, Children’s Place, JCPenny’s, and Walmart.
I like Target for clothes, burp rags, wash cloths and towels, the jumpers and walkers… that kind of stuff. I mean anywhere really… we’ve also bought things at Carter’s and Oshkosh. Any kind of baby depots are always nice. We buy formula, diapers, creams, wipes, and all that just at Safeway.
We purchased alot of our daughters stuff from target and babies r us. Alot of her clothes and blankets were gifts from friends and family. I love babies r us you can literally find everything and anything in there, but i do agree they can be kinda pricey, so i usually bargain hunt at target and walmart. Lots of luck.
We got most of our sons stuff at walmart. Just so happened that the day we went they were getting a new pooh design in so they put the old one on clearance. We got his travel system, pack n play, swing, highchair all matching which were all graco. We also bought his mattress and bouncy seat that day along with all his bedding and onesies and other stuff for less that 700.00 I love walmart and target also has really nice stuff. I dont find that the stores have a big selection but you can find most of the same things on walmarts website that you can on BRUS for much cheaper and free shipping to the store!
The stuff I actually bought is mostly from consignment shops. There’s a shop here that has a small but nice baby section. I also buy clothing on ebay and at walmart.
I actually got my daughters crib on Craigslist. I never thought I’d buy it there but I found one that was brand new. The lady gave me all the paperwork for it so I could look up any possible recalls. The mattress was still in the plastic and everything. A find like that is rare but it’s worth the look. I also bought a rocking chair, swing and pink papasan on Craigslist. Everything else was mostly bought at Target. I have a big problem with Babies R Us and only go if I absolutely have to and won’t walk in there without a coupon! And believe it or not but we don’t live near a Wal-Mart!
The place I buy from that I recommend the most is http://babymallonline.com. You can find coupons for it at http://www.retailmenot.com/view/babymallonline.com but the normal prices for the online store are great and everythings new (atleast everything I’ve bought from there was).
I’ve also bought baby stuff for people on ebay (esp. when they combine shipping cuz thats cheaper if buying multiple things), walmart (website is good too), target, ross, a local kids store, and Earths Best (lots of organic stuff some is decent price but lots are high priced).
I got everything at Walmart. I’ll occasionally stop in at Babies R Us but like you said, their prices are outrageous on some things.
But Walmart is definitely my one-stop baby shopping spot.
