You are going into the Holiday Season which isn't always the best time to get the most wonderful attendance at a shower due to pre-committed Holiday Events (corporate Xmas parties, etc). But I would try to have it in the next 4-6 weeks so that you don't wind up having a MEET THE BABY celebration! Congratulations and Have Fun! My baby was due on Valentine's Day so I needed to let people recover from holiday buying before thinking about my baby. Most of the time they occur around 7.5 to 8 months. Some people even have them after the baby is born so they know exactly what they need. It all depends on when you would like to have it to be honest though. I had mine when I was 7 1/2 months, my MIL threw it for me...she planned it with enough time that I could have everything ready before my due date (although he didn't come until 41 weeks + 3 days) and still have time to pick up anything I didn't receive that I thought I might need. I wouldn't recommend announcing the gender before the shower, if you do, you will only get blue/pink everything and will mostly get little outfits and fuzzy blankets. Clothes are fun to buy, you may not get the things you actually need. I've seen it happen so many times, it's not even funny.
