When I wash the baby clothes before the baby arrives, what exactly should I wash?

Obviously the clothes but… Should I go ahead and wash all the blankets, mittens and hats too? And socks?

Be Careful Of The Wash Everything Rule…
I washed everything beforehand with my first child and it was a big mistake! She had gotten new cloths from 0-9 months at my baby shower, I washed them all and she never got to wear half of them because they didn’t fit when the age was appropriate for the season…So be careful in that aspect.
Cloths are expensive and you can’t return them after you wash them.
Just wash the stuff you know you’re baby will be using now in Dreft or some other mild, hypoallergenic detergent.
Trust me, laundry is never ending and you will have plenty of laundry to do so you’ll be able to take the tags off your child’s cloths as needed and wash them for the first time with your usual washing of baby cloths, receiving blankets, sheets, etc…
Being organized helps the most. Have everything folded or hung up so it already has a place, it’s easily off the hanger or out of the drawer and into the washer…when it’s done being washed it has a place to go so there is no extra work in waiting to wash the cloths until they’re needed…except removing the tags and throwing them away

Clothes, socks, mittens, hats, basically anything that comes in DIRECT contact with skin. I washed newborn and size 0 to 3 months.

Get it all done at once. After the baby arrives, the last thing you are going to want to do is laundry.
Yeah I would, go ahead and wash everything you have and arrange it how you want it… it might be the only time you get a chance to do it! Thats what I did and I’m so happy I did it before hand! Make sure you wash them all in dreft or something safe for babies though!

Yup! It’s great to get it done a few weeks ahead. If you got A LOT of things, maybe just wash half and leave the ones with the tags still on. THat way, if you don’t use them all, you may be able to return the others.

I would clean anything you plan on using in the first month … this worked out well for me. If you have a lot of ‘newborn’ size clothes, I would only wash a couple of those outfits to start with b/c some babies are born too big for those or grow out of them with in a week or two, so you will want to leave the tags on them so you could return them if needed. You want to anything to comes into contact with baby’s skin — to remove any chemicals that might irritate her.
(I would NOT however, wash everything before baby arrives. If you wash the clothes/remove the tags, you can’t return them. Wash a couple of outfits to get you started (and certainly go ahead and wash crib sheets and things too), but wait on the rest. If you end up with a 10 pound newborn, or an unexpected gender, you might want to return/exchange some stuff for larger sizes/different colors.
Baby clothes are tiny, so the entire wardrobe won’t be more than one washer load. When you get home from the hospital, have hubby toss the clothes in the wash.
I washed everything. but I had to, because it was all packed in the closet for many many months (my first child’s clothes).
You should wash absolutely everything you can that will come into contact with the baby’s skin. They have such sensitive skin that anything that touches them has the potential to irritate them.
you should wash everything. and use a detergent that is dye free, and fragrance free as well. since baby’s skin is so sensitive. you can use ivory snow or dreft.
Anything that is going to be touching your baby’s skin you should wash.
anyways i say to wash everything cause that is what i was told to do. since i was having a girl, and my doctor was so confident and sure i was having a girl. i washed everything. when it came time to deliver my baby, i gave birth to a baby boy!
wash everything. Unless you absolutely know that the baby won’t wear it for a long while, then leave the tags on and hang those up. Once you wash it all much of it will shrink up and you may be like me and have a 2 month old baby wearing what the tags say should be a 6 month garment. (he’s actually a very small baby too) The sizing is so weird on some stuff make sure you shrink it up long before you THINK your baby will need it. Chances are you’ll be using it much earlier than expected.
Wash everything that is you will use or touch the babies skin. Sheets, blankets, all clothing. Don’t wash the clothing in the sizes that are too much larger, you may need to return them if they are seasonally inappropriate or you didn’t get a chance to use them.
Launder EVERYTHING you intend to use – clothes, hats, socks, mittens, bedding, towels, etc. in Dreft detergent. Wash it all b/c chemical residue left by manufacturer can irritate baby’s skin (& possibly be inhaled!) & use Dreft b/c it’s specially formulated for babies sensitive skin. Also, if using fabric softener use a liquid that can be added to the rinse cycle rather than dryer sheets (chemicals again!)

i washed it all, and unless your baby has sensitive skin, regular laundry soap is plenty good
