when did you start your baby on rice cereal or solids?
My doctor said definetily start at around 6 months when she starts to become more active she is almost 5 months and people keep telling me to give her rice cereal….I don’t want to and I wont but I was just curious as to when you started feeding your baby solids?
By the way my baby eats every 3 hours on formula and she sleeps a full 8 hours at night.
Thank you!

It is currently suggested to start at the age of 6 months due to the risk of allergies of infants
It’s really up to you. My family generally agrees that six months is a good time, which is when I started my son on them. He had just rice cereal a couple of times a day and bottle most of the time for about a week and then I started giving him stage 1 foods three times a day (cereal mixed with some stage 1 fruit in the morning). However much he would eat. At first it wasn’t a lot. He stayed on stage one for about a month. Stage 2 lasted much longer because he wasn’t ready for the chunks in the stage 3 or regular food.
If you think she’s ready, give her a little cereal and see what she thinks of it. FYI, my son hated plain cereal to start with. Did well mixed with bananas. Once you start a food though, do just that food for a few days to make sure there are no allergies. Introduce them one by one. At least, that’s what doctors and moms both recommend
I started solids (rice cereal IS ‘solids’) at 5 1/2 months. When my daughter was a baby the recommendation was still ’4-6 months’ rather than the current ’6 months.’
My doctor gave me the "okay" to start my daughter on solids (rice cereal) around 4.5 months old.
I started giving my baby cereal here and there at around 5 months or so. Sometimes she just seemed like she was not satisfied with breast milk alone and of course I asked her doctor about it first and he said it was fine. Although he advised me to give her oatmeal instead of rice cereal because he said that rice cereal can cause constipation in some babies. She is 6 months now and has a little more variety in her diet.
my lil boy is 4 1/2 months old and he has been on solids for over a month now.he loves apple sauce.
Most of the books I’ve read say any where between four and six months. My daughter is four months and I started rice cereal last week. I talked to my doctor and because there is no family history of food allergies he was comfortable starting her now. She didn’t quite no what to make of it at first because of the texture (I think). I’m only feeding her rice cereal once a day in the evenings and I’m just giving her whatever she will eat. She usually indicates when she’s had enough. Based on direction from my doctor, I will continue rice cereal for a week and then I can start introducing stage 1 foods.
I started my daughter on solids at a little older than 5 months. The main reason I did was because I thought it might help her sleep better at night. It may have, but I regretted starting that early in the long run. I wish I would have waited until at least 6 months, maybe even 7 months.
Until you feel like your baby really NEEDS extra, I wouldn’t push solids just yet. It’s so much more stuff to lug around with you when you go out, plus there’s not a lot of evidence that starting solids a month or two early has any extra value than waiting awhile.
Both my kids started at 4 months. My dr still goes by the 4-6 month idea. We started stage 1 fruits and veggies about 2 weeks after that, slowly introducing a new flavor every 3 days. They did fine with it. They took right to it.
We started my now 7 month old on rice cereal when she was about 5 months old. She took about a week to catch on but then started loving it!! I was a little hesitant at first as I planned to wait until 6 mos, but my pediatrician and husband felt that she was ready (she was very active and showed an interest in what we were eating). She is enjoying a variety of veggies and fruit and her absolute favorite is oatmeal mixed with applesauce.
i started around 41/2 months, shes nearly 6 months now, i think i could have waited longer though as she was fine on her bottles and sleeps 11hrs a night! nothin much has changed now, apart from she is taking 2, 8oz and 2 6oz bottles instead of 4, 8oz bottles and shes still a happy little thing!
my mom fed us kids rice cereal around two months. not every feeding but sometimes here and there for a fuller longer tummy. my baby is 3 months and she has a tapeworm i swear! i fed her rice cereal at 3 weeks just to try it and it really dnt help like i had thot. but i do it now wen she refuses to take her daily naps, so shell sleep longer through the night.
I started my daughter at 6 months. There’s no rush and you don’t have to use rice cereal either.
My baby’s doc told me to start rice cereal & 1st foods at around 4months,I waited until he was 5 months old & i started giving him little bit of rice cereal & 1st foods. My doc said babies iron levels start depleting from around 4months & that’s the reason we need to give them cereal.
