It would depend on your little ones mobility. Even though my daughter is advanced in her mobility I still removed the blanket just to be safe. Once I was sure she could move the blanket if it got in her face and was coordinated enough to move around the crib, then I added the blanket. I probably could have let her sleep with a blanket earlier, but like you, I wanted to make sure that I did everything I could to keep my baby safe.
