I had a great tub that you put in the kitchen sink. I used it on a daily basis for 7 months. It’s inexpensive (12 bucks). I purchased it at Babies R Us. They also carry it at Toys R Us. It’s by Summer (it’s blue mesh w/ a blue plastic base). It looks like a piece of junk but it was awesome. I couldn’t find it online so hopefully you have a store near you. The newborn lays comfortably in the mesh "sort of" hammock thing and you just wash and spray. You don’t have to worry about him/her slipping or getting out of your hands.
We also purchased the Fisher Price bouncy seat and used it for forever ($49.99). And, I do love the stroller that we purchased (travel system by Chico). We use generic (Target) diapers and they’ve saved us a lot of $$$. You may want to try them too. No complaints here.
a comfortable rocking chair – bar none.
Probably a car seat. Although if you dont have a car, itd probably be something else.
that’s a tough one…but I’d say her play pen…it had a bassinet on top & she slept in there for the first couple months during the day. It also had a changing table attachment.
It was nice ’cause she was high enough that I didn’t have to bend to put her to sleep or to change her & I didn’t have to go upstairs when I was sore.
Definately a swing. When I was so tired i couldn’t rock anymore, the swing could rock him while I rested. It worked out great for both of us, he got "held" like he wanted, and I got "rest". The swing also calmed him when he was fussy or angry and would just waller me when I was trying to hold and comfort him. He is now seven months old, and his swing bit the dust, and even though he won’t use if but for a little longer, we still bought another one so I could cook, clean, and shower without him fussing. The money was worth it to me. Good luck, and congrats!
Car seat, play pin, musical toys, sleepers and baby walker. My daughter hates her musical bouncer, swing and crib.
The car seat/punkin’ seat. When it’s not attached to the car seat base, it can be rocked and carried around in public, it’s made to fit on shopping carts too. I used the heck out of that thing.
If I had to pick only one I’d pick my rocking chair. I’ve spent many nights there feeding and rocking my baby to sleep!
A snuggle nest. It allowed us to cosleep with our baby in bed for the first month. Also, I could easily move it from room to room, lay it on the couch, in the crib, etc.
Sling.
for a baby all I need is my boobs, some diapers, a carseat, some clothes and my ring sling. everything else I can improvise with.
we coslept, used regular towels, often used washcloths instead of wipes, i used a backpack or tote for a diaper bag… we had lots of the extras – bouncy chair, play yard… but either they went unused or when we did use them, they were just nice bonus items to use on occassion.
i would say a car seat, considering most hospitals in the US won’t allow you to take the baby home unless you can demonstrate that your vehicle has a safely-installed car seat.
the most valuable piece of baby gear to have is a rocking chair, swing, carseat, vibrating chair, bassient, crib and a pack and play
When my daughter was tiny the baby gear I loved the most was her glider, it allows her to recline in a hammock type position and it gently glides back and forth at two different speeds. It helped me keep my sanity and helped her get some sleep on those tough nights and sometimes for naps during the day.
Now that she is older and I found the sling/wrap, I wish I would’ve had it when she was a newborn, it is a life saver!!!!
when he was just born his swing was good and now hes 8 months and his rock n bonce is great
His cradle swing, without a doubt!
a swing chair that rocks back and forth! great for rocking a little one to sleep whilst you get on and do something else!
I love my Boppy!!
I also love my Hostling baby sling and my bouncy/vibrating chair.
Many of the answers so far are very nice to have, but I have found that the one thing I actually needed was a good swaddling blanket. A baby can sleep anywhere (especially young ones). I got Aden + Anais swaddling blankets for my daughter and she sleeps like a champ all bundled up like a burrito.
The was THE most important thing I had for her. All the extras were helpful at times, but swaddling in a cozy blanket was KEY.
A Snugli (baby carrier). I just started using a sling this week, but any type of baby carrier is awesome. The babes love being snuggled up close to Mom (or Dad), they usually fall asleep. it gives you a couple free hands to make dinner/do laundry/etc., and nothing is better when you’re out shopping!
My rocking chair was the best and we still have some night in it. You have to have a carseat to leave the hosiptal. Sling is nice, carters makes really nice diaper bags. Best of luck to you!
