What is a good brand of baby clothes, Gerber, Carters, Old Navy Ect??
Well my wife & I just came from the OB Ultrasound appointment & at 34 weeks my little girl is 4.5LBs. Don’t know exactly how big she will be at 40 weeks, as that is only 6 weeks away. I wanted to go to the store & surprise my wife by getting her some of those one piece clothes for babies, or what have you, but the only things I know about are rifles, video games & cars! What would be a good brand that she would REALLY like from baby clothes & WHAT should I get to start her out on? I saw the carters stuff at Macys & they were cute, & Old Navy had some things, but mainly 12 months & up. Gerber looked ok, but on the short side. I am 6’2" & my wife is 5’10" so I know our girl will probally be long! I plan to buy the clothes this weekend so any help would be appreciated! I want to SURPRISE her!! Also, what colors are good? I like green, but it is a girl, so maybe purple & pink? Yellow?

I tend to go for Carter’s because they last, and their sizes fit well on a smaller baby. Gerber has a 3-pack of sleep-and-plays that you can get at any Sprawl-Mart for less than $10, and these are great because they have zippers. Zippers come in handy for midnight diaper changes, when you don’t feel like messing with buttons. Both Carters and Gerber have ‘tagless’ clothes for babies. Old Navy is pricey and has their logo plastered all over everything.
As far as practical, get her the Gerber 3-packs of sleep-and-plays. As for cute and thoughtful, Carter’s. Osh Gosh has really cute stuff for baby girls too. Target’s store brand, Circo, is awesome and really cheap, check them out if there’s one in your area.
As for colors, there’s a definite color difference in boys and girls clothes. Go with whatever catches your eye in the store; you’ll know it when you see it.
By the way, your baby might be long, but newborns stay all scrunched up for a few months. That’s why baby clothes look short. I have a long baby, and Carter’s fits best.
Congrats and have fun shopping!
They’re all pretty good brands. Don’t go crazy buying stuff. It will be outgrown so quickly you’ll wonder why you spent so much $! My kids didn’t even get to wear some stuff.
ANYTHING cute and CHEAP. My son has clothes from Baby Gap, Walmart, Target (my fav), Old Navy, Carter’s, Babies r us, TJ Maxx, Bergner’s, Macy’s, Dollar General, JC Penny, they are all wonderful.
Wal-mart has an excellent assortment of clothes for newborns. Dont wory about brand so much.
You should try another Old Navy for a better selection. I got the majority of my son’s newborn clothes from Old Navy. They fit well, and are not made of cheap material, and didn’t cost an arm and a leg. I also like Carter’s, Baby’s Place, IZOD, Rocawear Baby and Baby Polo.
carters is great!! they have a bargain price line at target,or the nicer line at most major dept. stores.
Green , yellow, pink, purple all good for a girl, some blues can work even, but my favorite are carters and old navy, old navy always has really good sales as well. my son has tons of their clothes and i dont know if you have a Ross anywhere around you, but they have tons of name brand clothes for less! good luck and congrats!
carters are good they usually run pretty accurately. i like old navy but they tend to run pretty small. my son is 4 months and small (13lbs) and wears the 6-12 months clothes from old navy. Long sleeve white onesies (tee shirts that button at the bottom) are them most useful item you will have, you can find them at Target. you will also need lots of receiving blankets. Make sure you select comfortable things. you will find you use them lots more often. i’m sure your wife will be happy good luck
CARTERS
awe how sweet……so you haven’t had a baby shower? …..you want to have a TON of onsies on hand….they are little cotton one peice t shirt looking things. carters is a good brand…just stock up on cute ones that are girly colors. they have packets of them ..you might want to get long sleeves if its cold where you are….and some simple cotton pants to match….walmart has all that stuff…
I always preferred Carters for my daughter when she wore newborn through 9 months. They were always very comfortable for her and the sizes seem to run a little bigger than normal so they can wear them a little longer. Plus they make really cute sleepers with ruffles on the behind. When babies are first born most people don’t worry about "outfits" to much. I would just buy some really cute sleepers for your new daughter. Buy lots of pink and I’m sure your wife will love the surprise.
carters foor sure!
The carter’s stuff always holds up well and is usually comfortable for baby. It tends to be a bit more practical than stuff from old navy…don’t get me wrong, the stuff from old navy is cute, just not the most functional for the everyday newborn wear. I have found that a lot of Gerber’s stuff shrinks up quite a bit…so buy it big. Ultrasound weights aren’t real accurate…I had mine 3 days nefore my baby was born and he weighed more than a pound over what the ultrasound said. I am sure she will love whatever you choose for your baby!
***If you really want to choke your wife up, buy her the children’s book Love You Forever.
You may want to get one or 2 pieces for each stage of year one. I’d start with onseies. Then add some socks and a skirt or little pants and a hat. You can get a pack of 3 of the little onesies for cheap at Wal-Mart or Target. She’ll blow through those quickly, but they are so useful! Get sizes 0-3 months, 4-6 months and so on for each piece. You may not need quite as many items from the 0-3 month range because people like to give those a presents, so if you wanna skip that range and jump right in to the 4-6 month range and double up on some items (2 skirts or a skirt and pants), that would be great.
Congratulations!
Awww…that is so sweet. I have loved carters. You can pick them up at babies r us and sears. Also they have a "cheaper" line that is sold at target I think it is called "child of mine" and then there is one sold at wal-mart called "just one year". I have never gone to old navy for clothes. Gerber is good for PJ’s. Don’t go to hog wild baby will grow quickly you could even get some for 3 and up. Also as a tip and if you two are okay with this, high class resale shops are great for baby. You save a ton and the clothes are just like new.
Purple and pink are great… Have fun!
All of those brands of clothes are great but keep in mind newborns don’t stay in the same size for long at all. You don’t want to spend a fortune on clothes that baby will only be able to wear a few times. Walmart has really cute stuff for a fraction of the cost. That way you can get twice as much. Another good place is The Children’s Place ( http://www.thechildrensplace.com ) Babies spit up on things and stain them all the time so keep that in mind when picking out the color. By the way oxiclean works great for spit up stains. That is really cool that you are so excited about the baby, I’m sure you two will be very happy.
First of all, this question made me smile. It was super sweet and she is lucky to have such a caring husband!
To answer, I go with Carter’s a lot for onsies (the "one piece clothes") You can get a set of 5 for around $14 at Babies ‘R Us, or if you have a Carter’s store, i’d check them out. They are SO handy and when my baby was first born, all she really wore was onesies. They have a lot of other cute outfits as well.
Anything you bring home to your wife she will LOVE. Im sure she will be touched. Good for you and Congrats!
They are all good, but dont go crazy they grow so fast. And honestly you will be having your baby wear the pj’s most of the time.
Carters is durable and cute. It last forver and good fabric. Thats all my babie girl wears. I have tried walmart…etc its not as good. And there a difference. Walmart does sell carters though. Baby gap is great too. Good luck and you sound like a great dad.
carters is a very strong sturdy brand also if you want a one stop shop you can go to wal mart carters started another brand they sell at walmart it is called child of mine they are just as great as carters gerber is also great i really didnt care for old navy because they did run small and my son grew out of every thing twice as fast from old navy good luck there is always so much more of a bigger selection for girls then boys
