What baby items do you wish you registered for? Need advice?

I am registering with Babies R Us and this is our first baby. I already registered for the basics like a stroller, crib, dresser, high chair, etc.
What baby items do you wish you registered for?

Any advice on making a baby registry?

I never needed or used a high chair or a "walker/exer-saucer." I didn’t need the swing either; it was used twice. The bouncy chair that hung from the doorway was used for about 2 months. I never used the bottle sanitizer or rack for the dishwasher after the 1st time because it didn’t do anything for us but make things difficult. I threw out the diaper wipe warmer – that dried out the wipes. The diaper genie was nice for about 3 months and then there was no cleaning it enough (it was always cleaned and sanitized on Mondays) to get that smell out… it’s made of plastic, so it slowly absorbed the faint diaper smell… just throw the little butt-muffins out in a plastic grocery bag and take the trash out of the house! I used almost zero "baby proofing" products – I watched my kid. Depending on your house size/lifestyle, you probably don’t need a monitor either. At night the bedroom doors are open so I can hear her, but if she’s napping and I want to garden, I set up the monitor while I’m outside. I never used a pacifier – I never thought that it was necessary because they only pacify the parents, not the baby… and then it becomes a habit.
I did use the mittens – made of t-shirt material – so she didn’t scratch herself. She never sucked her thumb/fingers either, maybe because of the mittens. I used almost everything in those little kits of baby things like the nose squeezy, thermometer, nail clippers… Never used powder or baby oil, but I did use baby lotion and diaper cream (for what they’re each intended for, of course! lol). She didn’t want socks, let alone shoes on her feet until about 1, so I never had to buy shoes until then. I did buy Dreft, the baby laundry soap. I never bought a gate; again, I watched my kid!
You can never have enough onsies and easy outfits. Fluffy dresses and suits are more of a pain than they are cute. Soft towels, washcloths and all-in-one bathwash/shampoo are never going to be thrown out. Socks, hats, boxes of diapers, and wipes will always be welcomed. Carseat/stroller combo was a huge time-saver. Having 3 sets of sheets for the crib was the perfect amount. I had about 9 burp cloths and 3 bibs at any given time; again, fancy ones aren’t useful. I didn’t need a changing table. I didn’t use a diaper bag, I got a bigger pocket book.
And are you breastfeeding? If not, formula is a huge help too!
I’d also register at Target. They have great baby stuff – and are less expensive than Babies R Us. And not everyone has babies r us around them – but most have Target. Good luck and have fun!
You forget about little things.. something I forgot was the hooded towels – and they definitely are great!

I wish that I had registered for a bottle warmer and a changing table. Makes things a little easier.
All those things are needed, but I never had enough onzies, wash cloths, bottles, wipes and diapers– If a baby shower is good for anything….it’s diapers– Good Luck! Congrats on the new kiddo!
i didn’t register for a "boppy" pillow and i really wished that i had. when i wanted one i had a really hard time finding one.

did not need – baby dishes (they don’t eat for a long time) , toys ( you get those whether you register or not), shoes and socks ( my baby had BIG feet)
Blankets, bibs, onesies, bottles, bottle warmer, crib sheets. My wife and I registered for all that stuff. they are cheaper than the big ticket items you registered for and if you don’t get them but you get all the Small stuff, you will have money to buy them yourself.
Keep a record of anything he does or you do,take pictures every year.
you need everything you can get so if you can get it for free take it…..make a registry any where you want wal mart, target, online stores,stores at the mall that have baby stuff..but make it affordable for others to buy you stuff….

Don’t register for blankets and towels ’cause you’ll end up getting a bunch anyways. If they’ll let you put it on the registry, add things like diapers and cream to your list. Baby bath and accessories is good too.
Don’t be shy about putting things on that you might not need right away like sippy cups and toys, it can get expensive so why not get them as shower gifts.
I wish I would have thought down the road a little ways. Bibs, sippy cups,bigger diapers, etc. More than just things for the first few months. I wish I hadn’t waisted my time registering for clothes everyone gave us the outfits that they thought were cute.
Towels, diapers, swing, boppy pillow, wipes, sheets, blankets, onesies (all sizes). I wouldn’t register for shoes (I regestered for one pair and got 10 literally), mobile for the crib, shades for the car window, baby carrier that you can wear, bouncy seat, changing pad(if you aren’t getting a changing table), burp clothes, bibs. I wouldn’t register for a diaper genie they stink or a wipe warmer (dries out wipes).
I would also register at target or walmart too. They are much cheaper and they are located everywhere. Good luck!
SHOULD PUT ON REGISTRY:

A PACK AND PLAY!! if the child is going to sleep in your room for a couple of days, this is perfect.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON:
**a wipe warmer (if you forget to turn the wipes every couple of hours, you will end up with hot, dry, yellow wipes)
**more than a couple of ‘outfits’ (you have no real way of knowing you child’s size, s/he may be bigger or smaller than you expect, and you have no idea how they will grow)
**shoes
**too many ‘crib accessories’ toys, etc.
…if cost is a factor
**a changing table, you can change the child just as well on their bed-and many babies fall off changing tables every year
Tips:
Gift cards are the best gifts-especially ones to walmart, kmart, or target, where they have baby items, and groceries.
You can also buy gas with Walmart gift cards.
While I was having a baby shower, my boyfriend had a Pamper-Party. He likes to cook, so he made a bunch of hamburgers and cook-out type stuff and invited his friends over to watch some sports-thing on PPV and the cost of admission was a package of diapers.
Good question.
Some of these answers made me think "Oh, man. I never would’ve thought of that," and some, well, no way do I need _that_, etc.

Even if you don’t need the reviews of stroller and crib manufacturers and so on, it has a lot of good do-you-need-this commentary. Some of it quite surprising; all told, pretty useful.
And do _not_ overlook 2nd-hand stuff. If you have the time, you can find amazing stuff for less than you’d pay for junk.
