My cousin is going to have a baby in January and I want to crochet a blanket. I have some pinkish-lilac yarn that I’m going to use, and I’m trying to choose a secondary colour to go with it. I have some white yarn but I think that would be too low-contrast since it’s a pale lilac, I’d like to use a bright colour.
Suggestions? It’ll be a girl, if that makes any difference.
I’d also like suggestions on what pattern I should do. I’m thinking either granny squares, rectangular with thick horizontal stripes, or circular with either a spiral or target-striped pattern.
Thanks!

I crocheted my first baby blanket about three years ago and donated it to some local place in need of them. Now that I’ve moved, I’m not sure where I should donate them. My dad suggested the local hospitals, but will they really use them? Is there another place that is in need of baby blankets? I can probably get done 4 in a week if I have enough yarn, so all I’m in need of is a place to give them away.

I’m having a baby and I want to make him a super rad Jolly Roger blanket but I’m not sure how I should go about it. Doing intarsia it seems like the wrongside would maybe get the baby’s finger caught. (I know that’s like a longshot and I might just be paranoid…)
So I was thinking about doing it as a knit/purl pattern, but that seems too subtle and I really want the classic bold white on black.
The last option I’ve thought of is double knitting so that one side is black with a white skull and the other is white with a black skull and it’s double thick and stockinette on both sides. This sounds like it would look the best, but I’ve never attempted double knitting before and it seems like a huge project and one that would take a LOT of yarn…
So I’m just looking for opinions: what would you guys do? should I just suck it up and do intarsia since that’s what’s easiest? Or, since I have 4 months to make all the mistakes in the world, should I attempt the double knit?

My baby is due in may next year and I really want to knit a blanket and maybe make a teddy bear. I don’t know how to knit although I did a bit of a scarf a few years ago I kinda forgot but found it easy at the time anyway. Just wondering how long would it take to knit a baby blanket? Is there special yarn(?!) I need for a baby? We don’t know the sex of baby yet so I’ll make a white one for now. Is it possible to use a needle and thread after its finished to embroider something on for boy or girl? Any help appreciated. Oh yeah what kind of pattern do I use? I’m clueless but enthusiastic!

How do I make sure that a newly crocheted blanket is sanitary for a new born baby just born today? When I crochet it’s hard for the yarn not to get on the floor and my cat wouldn’t quit playing with the yarn and walking on it. What do I do to make sure baby don’t get sick?

When I was in highschool, fifteen years ago, my cousin said she could not put her kids down for a nap in their clothing because it was not fireproof. Is that true that pajamas are? Is that why they make a special yarn for baby blankets? Or is that why they do not have crocheted baby pajama patters?

What yarns (weight & fiber) are the best type of yarn to use for clothing for children (5-10), toddlers, newborns and babies in the winter? I’m trying to figure this out, I don’t want my children to be cold for the Winter. Also, what type of yarns should be used for seasons like fall and spring and/or summer? Thanks so much, I appreciate it!
