I’m in 7th grade and in the beginning of the year, few girls wore designer bags to school instead of backpacks. At the end of the year, 90% of them wore bags! I feel like the only one with a backpack. All popular girls wear them, and some average girls wear them with their posh clothing and huge coach bags swinging on their shoulders. They act like there walking on a Hollywood red carpet and the paparazzi are snapping photos of them to be on People Magazine. It’s just school! They say they wear it because it’s cute, but more than half of the girls are probably wearing it because everyone else is. Don’t their shoulders ache? Since there young, won’t they have back and shoulder problems in their 20′s? I feel like backpacks are better because the weight is equal on both of your shoulders, especially since it’s middle school and you carry more things.
Two days ago, these three "posh" girls came up to me and said, "You look like a turtle in that backpack of yours." They said ‘backpack’ as if it were an epidemic. Then they told me that I needed Vans shoes instead of my Sketchers sneakers. They asked me why my clothes come from the Children’s Place, and told me to stop wearing my hair in pigtails and wearing a bow on my head because it makes me look like a first grader. And lastly, that I should carry makeup. So I felt small, like a little baby. And today was the last day of school, and they said that next year in eighth grade, I should come back wearing Hollister and Abercrombie and Aero.
I told them I was going to be myself, and not wear what other people are wearing. And they said that’s the point of school! What’s wrong with these girls? I swear, some of them apply makeup like 6 times in a school day! And they look old, like 40! And it’s hard to find a true friend because all the nice girls seem to disapear in the pressures of middle school.
