Does anybody know the average size (in inches please) baby that newborn and preemie clothing would fit? I am shopping for a nice baby doll for my daughter for Christmas. I love the Corelle "Bebe Cheri" doll and it says that she can wear regular size 3-6 months baby clothes. Since I have a lot of those left over from my daughters younger days, I love this idea. However, there are some other very sweet, classic-looking baby dolls (lie the "Bitty Baby" from American Girl) however she is only 15 in. long and some others are only 13 or 14 in. long. Since I am on a rather limited income I would prefer to get my daughter a nice, well-made doll and not spend a lot of extra money on specialty brand clothes from the companies that make them. My thought is that if the 17-20 in dolls fit into the average 3-6 month old baby clothing, perhaps the smaller ones would fit easily into newborn or preemie clothing (which I can easily purchase inexpensively 2nd hand at a consignment shop. Does anyone know the dimensions of the average newborn and preemie clothing? Even better, has anyone used newborn or preemie clothing on one of these smaller dolls? How was the fit? I also want to get her some diapers to put on the baby, little bottle, etc. and I need to know what size diapers to get.
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions! Happy holidays all!

My project is to make some newborn preemie clothing. My first project is to make a hat. I know that I need about 54 sts. but I don’t know what colour yarn to use. These are the colours(and textures) I have:
- bright pink semi-thick yarn (it’s kind of messy and knotted but it’s supposed to be that way, and it’s also harder to knit with) and purple of the same kind of yarn
- black, chocolate, and rust coloured normal soft yarn (not as soft as 4ply, but softer than the other yarn I have and easier to use)
- two small balls of yarn that are sort of thin, and are vibrant green and purple <- but I don’t have much of these so it won’t be enough for an entire hat, but maybe the rim (16 rows)?
What colour and what texture would be best to use for making a newborn hat? I can’t go out and buy more yarn because my mom doesn’t have the money for that right now. Help would be much appreciated, thanks! (:
PS: Sorry I can’t just tell you what kind of yarn it is. I lost the information wrapper for the yarn. :\

My daughter in law just gave birth to twin boys. Each is only a bit over 3 lbs. Baby clothing is really expensive. I checked out preemie clothing on the Internet and some little outfits sell for .50 plus!
Are they easy to sew? I used to sew but couldn’t find preemie patterns on the Internet either.
Does anybody have suggestions on how to buy/make inexpensive preemie clothing?
