my daughter was 7lbs 15 oz and 19.5 at birth and now she is 2 months old and still in newborn diapers and until recently could wear most preemies except jumpers and most 0-3 month clothes swallow her whole…my mom says its because she is a compact baby like I was… when people see her they always think she is a "brand new baby" or only 5lbs… my friends babies all feel so light when I hold them compared to her even though they are slightly older and weigh more… she is really active and has been since I was 13 weeks pregnant… my husband says its because she is so muscular… she was rolling over and holding her head up on her own from birth and has been hitting other physical milestones quickly… she is at a 4 month level

I need a bit od advice. I have an 8 month old son, and my sister has a 6 month old daughter. My son has been ahead of the milestones for development since around 2 months. He is very active and now "cruising" and almost walking. I spend a lot of time working with him and encouraging him to be confident in trying new things. My neice is dramatically diferent. She isn’t rolling over yet, not sitting except in those new rubbery foam type of baby seats, doesn’t raise up on her arms when on her tummy, not eating baby foods yet- only formula, and is only making minimal sounds. I realize that all babies do things on their own time and you can’t really compare two babies. So that’s why it’s hard for me to tell if she’s just taking her time or if she’s not being interacted with and loved as she needs to be since my son did all of these things so quickly. Aside from the physical signs, my sister never packs her bags adequately. She stayed the night over the wknd and was only packed summer clothes, it was around 50 degrees and rainy. no socks and shoes didn’t fit. Everytime that we go to dinner or anything they have to borrow my sons formula because they forget it, they use the same kind. Last night the whole family met at a restaurant for a birthday dinner. My Mom had picked her up from daycare and was bringing her. Both of her parents had been at home and could have brought any items for her. She only had her bag from daycare, with no bottles or formula left, no wipes and 1 diaper. But this isn’t isolated, it’s everytime they pack her things for the day she’s missing essential items. It seem very neglectful to me. Also, they’re always rescheduling and canceling doctors appointments and then i never hear anything else about them taking her. She’s been congested for about a month now, and it doesn’t seem that they’re even concerned enough about that to take her to the doc. My sister thinks i’m extreme with how I raise my son in that i make his baby food and really study up on developmental phases and theories. I just want to be the best mom for him i can be. But this is why she blows me off when i tell her my concerns.
SO… after all of that venting, does it seem that I’m being overly concerned or does it seem like neglect in your opinion? This is the first child for both of us some I’m always wavering on whether these things are normal or not. Thank you so much in advance, I love these kids with all that i am and only want the best for them.

ok my son will be 6 months on the 14th, he has been reaching his milestones one after another after another.. he has one tooth through the gum and two i can see coming, he can roll over both ways immediatly after laying him down, he pulls his feet up to his mouth, shakes toys and picks them up, removes pacifier and tries (sooo cute!) to replace it.. he can sit if i hold his hips, bbut is wobbly and falls forward if i let them go. now to his size.. he still fits into some newborn clothes and wears all 0-3 month clothes all brands.. he was 5 weeks early weighing 6 7.7 and 19.5 inches long, he has grown roughly ( its darn hard to try to measure an awake baby at home lol) 25.5 in and roughly weighs 12.5-13 lbs. his head still measures the same as at his last appt at 3 months where they put him on nutramigen because he wasnt gaining weight on enfamil and breastmilk. . i feel like he is still sooooo small compared to other children.. i just need comfort, he has an apointment coming up but im so nervous that he is growth wise soooo far behind. ( my great grandmother was at her tallest 4 foot 10 )
thank you for all the answers! it sounds terrible but please dont judge me, i never met his biological fathers family, but from what i was told they are all kinda short, but fat.. he left us when i found out i was pregnant and the army has a great way of hiding people.. My mothers side (great grandma, my grandpa , my mom and one aunt, and myself are all around 5’5 and average+ a bit o’ love lbs.. ) are all shorter, my moms mother, My father and his entire family are in the high 5 feet to 6’5 range. . so seeing Gabe in my father and brothers arms it really takes me back a few steps.. he seemed huge to be a premie, and he was, but its like he hasnt grown much since then.. i love him even if he stays the size he is now.. my little man. <3

My son is 4 weeks old and still doesn’t really make eye contact or hold your gaze.
Most baby books say at 4 weeks old they can accomplish those tasks, but I’m not concerned.
My son was 2 1/2 weeks early which makes him a little later on some milestones.
And I know all babies develop at different times.
When did your baby start making eye contact, or tracking a toy or object with their eyes?
