TODDLER BOYS & CLOTHING QUESTION?

I’m not second guessing myself nor am I going to change what I am doing but I am curious..

My son is 2. He now has an opinion on what he wears. Most of the time I do pick out his clothes but once in a while I let him pick something out as well.

Both times we left Old Navy and Buy Buy Baby he came out with Kai-Lan shirts. They are both for girls. He has NEVER seen this TV show before but he has always been obsessed with colours. That was the first thing that he learned by pointing and the first thing he learned how to say as well. Kai-Lan shirts have lots of colour usually. He holds onto these shirts with all of his might until he can put it on once we get home.

Anyway, my question, would you let your son wear a girl’s shirt if he wanted or do you just tell him no right away? One of the Kai-Lan shirts he wears as is but the other one I did actually have to cut the sleeves off because they were ruffled.

From what I’ve seen in the stores, American’s tell their son/daughter it’s a BOY shirt or it’s a GIRL shirt. Most of the Japanese kids don’t care. My son’s best friend, Kosei, who’s 3, wears boy clothes but has hot pink crocs. He wears them in public. My son, along with the rest of the kids in our neighbourhood who are boys ranging from 12 months to 5 years old ALL wear girl pants. It’s as close as we can find to Japanese pants while in the states.

First picture is a Kai-Lan shirt I’m asking about
Second picture is my son wearing girl pants, like all of his friends.

No TD from me.
For the last 2 photos are of the other Kai-Lan shirt that I did decide to cut the sleeves off after taking the pictures a couple days ago because it IS a really girly shirt. I don’t mind the graphics but I thought it was the best thing to do cutting the sleeves off.

Does it make a difference to you which Kai-Lan shirt you’d let your son wear? Would you only let him wear the one that is more of a unisex or would this second one be alright as well after the cut?

It’s so funny to me how much each culture is different from the next. No matter which ones are being compared.
Hey Momma -
I did look at Gap. They are alright as well but I didn’t see any with the flare leggings like the ones we have now.
Who am I -
I don’t feel as if I’m giving him control. I have no problem with letting my child dress in a way that makes him happy. It’s not like we go strolling down the girl’s isle. When you shop at Old Navy or Buy Buy Baby, all the graphic t’s are in the same spot. So I could see Batman, Spiderman, Strawberry Shortcake and Kai-Lan on the same shelf.

This isn’t a control issue at all. I don’t see many rainbows or shirts with lots of colours in the boy sections of places or I’m sure he would pick some of them up as well.

Favorite baby/toddler shoes?

What are your favorite baby/toddler shoes- besides Robeez crib shoes?
We just got my son his first pair of "real" shoes-
he has worn Robeez ever since he was born and had Robeez boots this winter (soft leather). The shoes we got are Stride Rite and they’re really cute.

I’ve also looked at See Kai Run, Robeez Tredz and a couple others- but I liked these because they are cute, will go with lots of stuff- and they had them in his size. I haven’t been able to find many shoes I like in his size, even online lately!!

What are your favorite baby shoes? Why?
live life to the fullest-
I bought those for my son. I just returned them yesterday. he isn’t walking quit yet- and they just wouldn’t stay on his feet!! but i love them!!
sara- i asked what shoes you liked, not to insult the shoes i bought.

I happen to like the shoes we got for him- and MANY childrens shoes cost what Stride Rite costs.

I don’t like all of there shoes- but I DO think there are SOME cute ones. Plus, they are good for thier feet.
malwili-
i have never heard of those before. i just looked up their website and am lookiung around- super cute!!
somanynamestaken- good suggestion.
i have thought about them before, but didn’t know if they were better to get after he actually has learned to walk. he’s almost there – but not quit. I have a pair and wear them quite often- and my son’s father also has a pair he wears often too!
