Is your toddler very independent and head strong?

My son ( 2 and 1/2) is extremly independent and head strong. I have created some of it by letting him make decisions about his day to day life (such as picking his clothes, what cereal to eat, etc.) But now because he is in the terrible two’s (and I do mean terrible) I am wondering if he is going to be trouble when he gets older. My mother thinks I need to control him more and not let him have the decision, but that’s just because she just moved back in with us and it drives her nuts. Last night she got mad at me because my son wasn’t tired at his normal bedtime and I didn’t want the fight with him, so I let him stay up till 9 when he was finally tired. She swears that he is going to be trouble in a few years. I say that once he learns how to talk then we can reason things out. Who is right? Should I control everything around him? I really like encouraging him to figure things out for himself. Shouldn’t I do that and create a trusting bond rather than dictator?
Let me just add that I do provide boundaries for him. He knows just how far to puch things, but I don’t feel that the clothes he wears (weather appropriate) and his bed time warrant a fight. He has a selection of everything to choose from (food, clothes, etc) that I allow him to pick from. When it comes to certain things though (like baths, meal times, etc.) I don’t give him a choice, he does it like it or not.

How do I get my husband to clean up after himself? He leaves all his stuff all over the apartment and leaves the gate open neither of which are safe for my daughter. When I remind him to do something he gets all pissed off. I spend most of the day cleaning and nothing gets accomplished because he totally trashes the place when he gets home. He wont even put his clean clothes away or put the dirty ones in a basket…

I have all the plugs covered but its hard to keep her out of the areas that are totally trashed. The only place I can keep clean is the living room and even that is really hard.
I went to school today (my only day out) and came back and there was cereal all over the living room, toys over the living room and our daughters room, lunch still left out and the high chair left uncleaned.

When I say trashed, we cant even walk through it theres so much stuff
I think this is more of a rant than anything. It just set me over the top to know I had just cleaned before I went to class and had to come home and clean up after him and then he had the nerve to get angry when I asked him to shut the gate at the top of the stairs.

When did you start your baby on cereal?

I know, because of allergies you are technically not suppose to give them food until 6 months. My baby is 3 months old, the girl eats 8 ounces every 2 to 3 hours, and I know she needs the formula for the nutrients, but she’s going thru a can and a half of formula a day. So I was wondering if anyone else started their babies on cereal early?

My daughter is 5 months old and she usually eats about 26-30 oz a day. She usually eats three 8 oz bottles and then a 6 oz bottle before bed. Do you think she’s ready? Also how often do you give her the cereal and when do you start giving the veggies and fruit and how often? Also when you start feeding your baby baby food how much formula should I give her? Thanks!!

What age does a baby start using a sippy cup?

My son is 5 and a half months old. He currently takes 3 (5 oz) breast milk bottles daily as well as nursing 2-3 times per day. He eats 1/4 cup of cereal twice a day and is starting on vegetables.

When will he start using a sippy cup in addition to the bottle and what does a baby drink in the sippy cup? I’m not a big fan of sugary juices and I’ve heard a baby can get too much water.

Mommies Lie….?

I just got my Baby Talk Magazine in the mail and here are some fun lies and fibs that moms tell strangers, friends, parents and their spouse. Just thought I’d share it to brighten your day! Some of them are SO true.

To Strangers:
-Is he sleeping through the night?
-He sleeps great. (lie)

-These clothes didn’t ‘work out’ because I just had a baby. (lie – your 9 months post-partum)

-I’m dreading going back to work. (lie – you’re actually looking forward to it!)

-I only feed my baby organic food. (lie – all your friends say the same thing though and you don’t want to look like a bad mom)

Lies We Tell Our Friends
-You’re baby is so adorable. (lie – he’s actually kinda odd looking.)

-(while on the phone) I need to go lay her down for a nap, change her diaper, feed her, etc. (lie – you just don’t feel like talking anymore.)

-I can’t make it to the school function, that’s my daughters nap-time (lie – you just don’t want to go.)

Lies we tell our parents:
(to be continued)
(continued)

-Your mother in law INSISTS on letting the baby "cry it out" so you tell her that you do. (lie – you pick your baby up everytime she whimpers)

-Yes, he loves the present you sent him! (lie – you shoved the annoying toy into the attic)

-Yes, grandma. I added cereal to his bottle, but he’s still not sleeping through the night. (lie- you hate it when "old fashioned" people suggest that stuff when the baby is only 3 weeks old!)

-Yes, everythings going great! (lie – your having a bad day but you don’t want them to think you can’t handle it.)

Lies we tell our Husbands:
-the smell of dish soap makes me sick while pregnant. (lie – you just don’t wanna do the dishes)

-I’m need to run some errands and it’ll be easier if you watch the kids for a few hours. (lie – "errands" only take about an hour but that stop at Starbucks and the book store are precious "me" time!)

I hope these made you smile! I know I’m guilty of some of these. Feel free to add your own "mommy lies".
