Should there be a gap between an ikea crib and mattress?
We recently purchased the leksvik crib from Ikea for its high ranking safety. However after assembling the crib correctly and inserting the proper size mattress we found there was a gap (approx 1.5 inches on both sides). One suggestng was using bumpers to fill in the gaps, but that also sounds unsafe. Has anyone encountered this issue?

there should be absolutely NO gap whatsever between the mattress and cot on ANY cot (and DO NOT use bumpers either!!) The mattress on any crib should always be flush with the sides and ends to prevent them getting any limbs or their head/face stuck or smothered in the gaps.
Have a look at the cot again and make sure all the pieces are fitted the right way around (not upside down etc..)
I just googled that crib and found a few things where people were complaining about this gap and how unsafe it is. I actually found a picture someone had posted of this gap

if this is what is on your crib take it back for a refund. It can’t be safe having that gap and there is no way i would use a crib with a gap like that.
on one thing i found it had said someone got the levsvik, realised it had a gap and returned it for the gulliver which does not have a gap (but isn’t as nice)

I don’t know this cot at all but i know with the one i purchased that i had a massive gap too – then realised that the sides needed to be reversed and the gap dissappeared
No there should not be a gap, gaps are dangerous.
I would check first to make sure that it was assembled correctly. If that doesn’t fix the problem then I’d probably return the crib. Based on the crib we got for our son (not from Ikea but we still had to assemble it) the crib and the mattress fit EXTREMELY tight. It is tight to the point that its difficult to change the sheets but at least I know that no baby will be getting trapped there.
No, there shouldn’t. Gaps are dangerous. You shouldn’t HAVE to use a bumper, so you should return the crib or get reimbursed if possible.
But if you can find an approved bumper that’s actually safe, and you feel it’s too much trouble to disassemble it again, I don’t see the harm.
NO it should fit just right if it doesn’t it is unsafe do not use pillows or bumpers to fill in the gaps.
you should demand they change the mattress to one that actually fits anything else is unsafe and unacceptable
