Should I buy more prego pants at 39 weeks?
Hello all! I have been trying soooooo hard to not buy too many prego clothes as I think they are all ugly (all of them) and too expensive to be useless after 3 or 4 months. However, I am reduced to nearly NOTHING for clothing. EVERYTHING hurts my hips and stomache and is so uncomfortable I want to cry. I tried to put on my preprgo jeans and use the belly band….the ONE pair that i could even get over my rear end was so tight on my hips while I was sitting, I started crying. I feel soooo huge! I have gained 45 lbs. I weigh 230…..OMG!!! I cannot believe how fat I am! I am uncomfortable ALL the time.
Anyway, seeing as how this is my first baby, I don’t know what to expect for after baby is born. I have gained probably 15-20lbs in pure fatness alone. So the idea that my preprego jeans will fit, I’m sure is out of the question. Do you think I should invest the few dollars I have into a pair of prego pants, or should I expect to squeeze into my preprego pants shortly after giving birth as I will be breastfeeding?
Also, I know my baby will be relying on my for nutrition, but would something like the southbeach diet be safe while breastfeeding?
i should add that the maternity clothes I have right now are in threads….I had to cut the elastic on one of them, so now they fall off. One pair was cheap so the band is half way ripped off, and my favorite pair has a hole on both inner thighs…

if your that uncomfortable..i would definitely get some more pants,i was the same way trying not to buy so much of that ugly stuff they call prego clothes ha,but it became too uncomfortable.if you dont want to waste alot of money you could always go to the Goodwill or any second hand store, they have prego clothes cheap and it will help to have something comfortable to wear while your losing the baby weight..i hear breastfeeding makes you lose a ton of weight too : )
I am due in 2 weeks with my second. I was able to get into size xlarge, large sweatpants after I had my son right away…so I wouldn’t suggest buying more maternity. I wore maternity shorts…the ones that weren’t totally obviously maternity, for a few weeks post baby. Then just oversized t-shrits…then eventually regular clothes! I wouldn’t get more maternity…
I lost all of my baby weight the first two weeks after I gave birth (I had swollen to gigantic proportions so it was ALL water and baby) i still didn’t fit into my prepregnancy clothes until 2 months later. I would highly suggest purchasing at least one pair but I would wait for a week or two after birth. Just put on sweatpants for now. I lived i Yoga pants for the first two weeks after I gave birth and then I wore my maternity clothes until my prepregnancy pants could fit. Good luck!! I know you feel like a whale right now, we all did at 39 weeks. Hang in there, your beautiful baby will be here soon.
I say get more pants, you want to be comfortable. I didn’t buy that many prego pants durning my pregnancy and I gained 70 pounds with my twins. They were my first, and I never even knew anybody close to me that has had kids. So I thought after pregnancy I would go right back into wearing the clothes I did before pregnancy (lol, I laugh at myself now for thinking that) and that didn’t happen. Not even close, I can’t even get them past my thighs. So I only have a few maternity pants that fit me and it makes me so sad, and now I can’t even afford to go buy new clothes. I breastfeed also and it did help me lose alot of weight, but I still have alot to lose. Buy some more clothes so you can be comfortable now, and after birth.
I don’t know much about the southbeach diet but I don’t think it would be bad to do while breastfeeding. Its all healthy food right. Anyways, good luck with everything. And congradulations on your baby!
I’ve seen alot of really cute maternity clothes. Just don’t go to target or walmart there clothes do suck. Go to real maternity clothes store, one that I went to was called something ‘motherhood.’
you’re not fat, you’re pregnant for god’s sake. invest in some sweat pants if you don’t want to buy maternity jeans. I can tell you though, the time goes so slowly at the end and if you’re not comfortable, you’re going to be miserable. just shell out $20 and buy a pair from old navy or something. you’ll probably want to wear them after the baby is born too. you might be able to fit into your pre-pregnancy pants after but you might not. just get a pair.
and do NOT diet while breast feeding. your baby will be fine nutrition-wise, but you’ll be exhausted. your body draws on what you’re eating to make milk for the baby, so the milk is always going to be nutritious — you’re going to suffer if you diet while breast feeding.
Yoga pants are a god send. I have a few pairs that I wear constantly I got them from Target. (weren’t too expensive either) They don’t have an elastic waist band and are super super comfortable. You will want some comfy pants to wear after you have the baby. Go get them.
I wouldn’t go with the south beach right away, you need the carbs to create an adequate milk supply. Just eat well and balanced meals.
i know i will get TD for this and IM NOT trying to offend you but i think its so tacky to see a pregnant woman in clothes that you can tell she is squeezing herself into [with her belly hanging out the bottom of the shirts, etc. im not saying you did this! im just saying] bc they are non maternity clothes [im not talking about sweatpants].
i gained 50 pounds during my pregnancy and i started wearing maternity at about 22 weeks, i found alot of cute clothes at target, liz lange has some really trendy clothes. i found alot of cute stuff at motherhood too [i also hate the frilly old school maternity clothes so it was hard for me to be pleased with them but i DID find alot of cute ones along the way]. from the beginning of my pregnancy to now, this is how my sizes have gone
pre pregnancy to about 18 weeks – size 5 [non maternity] or small
18 weeks to about 22 weeks – size 7 or medium non maternity
22 weeks [showing considerably] to probably 30 weeks – medium in maternity
then from then on i was a large in maternity
now im a size 10/11 or large in nonmaternity…i just went ahead and gave ALL of my prepregnancy clothes to my younger cousin haha theres no way im going to be a 5 ever again lmao
i think you should just get a couple of pairs of stretchy pants, theres no reason in getting maternity clothes because you def wont want to wear them after baby is born [i packed all mine up and put them in storage the night before my induction and put all my prepregnancy clothes in my closet thinking i would be that small again...HAH]
good luck and congrats =]
Buy one really decent pair of pants with a soft belly band, like these:
http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/maternity/pants/PRD~447369/Oh+Baby+by+Motherhood+Secret+Fit+Belly+Cargo+Pants.jsp
I had a c-section and wore the soft belly pants for quite a while after my delivery, even though I had lost a lot of weight – the belly part was the only thing that felt comfortable on my incision.
If you end up not wearing them too long post-pregnancy, you can sell them for 50% on craigslist or something. Honestly, I understand the reasoning behind not buying maternity clothes at this point but a) you’re 39 weeks and a new pair of pants will make you feel SO much better so you deserve them b) first pregnancies frequently go long, so if you go a week overdue, even 50 bucks for pants is only 2 dollars a day or your comfort c) you’ll most likely use them for several weeks post pregnancy.
Buy some pants, dear, you are uncomfortable enough.
Sweat pants could work, I wore GAP sweats up until I gave birth and after they are sooo comfy! I still wear them…
I wouldnt invest in any maternity wear now…not at 39 wks…you can expect to lose about 25lbs anywheres from after delivery, to about a month after delivery you weight gain on average is typically….
Blood 3 pounds
Breasts 2 pounds
Womb 2 pounds
Baby 7.5 pounds
Placenta 1.5 pounds
Amniotic fluid 2 pounds
Fat, protein & other nutrients 7 pounds
Retained water 4 pounds
but theres also alot of water weight to blame for gaining all that extra ‘flub’ lol…its not uncommon to lose a good 20 lbs a couple days after birth..however its also not uncommon to lose a single pound after birth. Not everyone is the same youll just have to wait and see! But I’d just pick up, some sweats, and some skirts, from maybe ross, or target, some cheap store..NOT the maternity high priced ’boutiques’ screw that lol best of luck to you! and remember ITS ALMOST OVER!
