preemie size or newborn size?? current mommies please.?
we are finding out the sex tomorrow
[that is if the baby lets us, lol] and i was just wondering…when bringing your baby home, did they fit in newborn clothes or did they need preemie sizes for the first week or so? my sisters both have kids and said preemie clothes will fit most babies for a few days. was this true with yours? should we buy a preemie and newborn outfit and take both when i deliver to see what works? im asking this cause the one thing we are buying tomorrow is the coming home outfit.

It really depends on how big your baby ends up being. My son was 9 pounds and was too big for even newborn clothes. My daughter was 6 pounds 11 ounces and teeny and fit in preemie clothes for a couple weeks. There’s really no way to know.
it really just depends on the size of your baby. I did buy 2 preemie outfits just in case, plus they are just so tiny and cute! haha but for the most part your newborn sizes will fit just fine also.
Newborn sizes usually fit babies that are about 5 to 8 pounds. I wouldn’t waste money on preemie clothes, most newborns will grow out of newborn sizes fast enough, and probably not even fit into preemie sizes.
Good luck at your ultrasound!
my son was 8 pounds even and he fit into NB, was a tad big on him. premie is TINY! go with NB if your baby is full term
i would also not buy much NB clothing. start with 0-3. My son is now 3 months and is in his 6-9 month clothing. they grow like weeds! : )
I never used preemie clothes. My girls were born at 38 weeks and 39 weeks and they were 6 pounds 11 oz and 7 pounds even. However, unlike many people I know my girls wore newborn sizes at least three months. Many people I know had their children in newborn sized clothes for just a few weeks or even a few days.
You have it right, I would take one of each size. My first wore preemie sizes for the first two weeks, I had to go out and buy him a few outfits since I was not expecting it. My second was in newborn sizes from the start.
With both my son and daughter I just used the regular newborn clothes and they fit great. I’m planning on doing the same with the boy I have on the way now. My daughter weighed 7lb 13 oz and my son was 7lb 6oz. I suggest regular newborn clothes.
ive know people who had babies that were 8 and 9 pounds. they wore regular 0-3 months. my kids wore preemies clothes because they were 5lbs. i will wait a little longer until i know how much it probably weigh areound delivery. Most babies do start off with newborn clothes.
It depends on how big the baby is. Two of my kids wore newborn size they where 6 pounds each, my third child wore 0 month and the one I am carrying now I think will be in the 0-3 months as well. Preemie size I would not worry about so much, unless your baby is going to be born a month or two early. No way to tell but I would be safe and buy a few newborn outfits and more of the 0-3 months. If the baby needs more newborn outfits after he or she is born, make sure you have 30 dollars saved to hit up the local thrift store and buy used clothes. You only need a few Brand new outfits for outings the rest of the time they will just get dirty and stained anyways.
I Wouldn’t Bother With Preemie Clothes unless you know your child will have a low birth weight weight but if its a normal birth weight newborn would be what you want to get they dont need tight clothes with the umbilical cord still attached.
preemie worked for both of my girls and first one was 7lb 12oz and second was 6lb 12oz so i would say preemie but if you want to be shore bey both
good luck
I would say go with newborn. You never know how big your baby will be. Even when the doctors predict, they sometimes get it wrong. When I was 37 weeks, they told me my daughter was already 8lbs, when she was born, on time, she was only 7lbs 1/2 oz. I bought mostly 0-3 months clothes, and a few newborn things and she grew into what didn’t fit her right away pretty fast.
My son was 8lbs at birth and I felt all newborn clothes for the most part were a bit big on him. Preemie would have worked for about 1 week at the most.
If you want the outfit to fit perfectly when you come home I’d bring a preemie size and a newborn size … just keep in mind your child most likely will not fit in a preemie size very long if he/she is born full term. Babies until about the age of 6 months rapidly grow out of their clothes.
I would buy preemie and newborn(one of each). It all depends on how big the baby is. All 3 of my daughters had to wear preemie clothes when first born.My oldest was 7lbs 6 oz and wore preemie til she was about 1 month old.My second daughter was 8 lbs 4 oz and wore preemie clothes for about a month give or take a week, and my third daughter was 6lbs 14 oz and wore preemie clothes til she was almost 4 months old and she is 14 months now and is still wearing some 6-9 month clothes. All my daughters varied in height and weight such as my oldest after gettin out of the preemie clothes was always wearing a size up from her age until she hit about 2 yrs old.MY second wore a size down and my third is still wearing about 2 sizes down from her age. So it really all just depends on their build and how big they are at birth. You can always ask the ultrasound tech for an estimated weight of the baby at the time and usually doctors give you a guesstimated weight throughout ur pregnancy especally towards the end. So you can always go by that when buying clothes before baby gets here.
Best of Luck
Both my boys were large (8 lb. 4 oz. and 8 lb. 14 oz. respectively) and most newborn stuff didn’t fit (even the diapers. They both started out in a size 1 diaper.) If I were you, I’d get the Carter’s gowns (size 0 – 3 months) and take your baby home in that. They’ll fit any size baby. The only problem is you’ll have to sort of bunch up the elastic at the hem to get the car seat buckled, but that’s what blankets are for–to cover little legs.
My boys LIVED in the gowns for the first few months of life. THey’re soft, comfy, and they make diaper changing super easy. Just don’t do like I did with my first baby…I was trying to be prepared, so I took ALL the baby clothes (shower gifts, stuff we’d bought, etc.) ripped the tags off and washed everything. VERY little of it actually fit, and since I’d washed it and threw the tags away, I was stuck with them!
Preemie is very tiny, usually for babies that weight like 5 lbs or less. My son weighed 8 lbs 5 oz at birth so he barely fit into the NB sizes. He wore NB sized clothes for maybe 3 weeks then he was in 0-3mos clothes, and now at 2 mos 2 weeks, he is now fitting his 3-6 mos clothing. Have fun shopping tomorrow!! That was my FAV. part!!
) Hope you find out the sex, HOW EXCITNG!!
GL and Congrats!~
