Have a trusted friend or family member go with you both to the ultrasound. Let the tech know that you want it to be a suprise to both of you but for the tech to let your friend know. Shopping can be done for you and it can be kept a secret from you until your little bundle arrives. I am sure the person you choose would be one of the people to visit you at the hospital and could bring you a few outfits to try on your new one for pictures and the ride home. They can also let others know and quite a few things can be tucked away for you without letting you know the secret.
i found target does have some gender neutral onsies, as does the classic pooh line. I bought a lot from there before i found out what i was having. Check there or babies R us… they have a good line of neutral stuff as well
In the early days you just need LOTS of plain white stuff that you can chuck on a hot wash!
You will no doubt get LOADS of clothes as gifts so will have nice outfits.
Babies look adorable in plain white and are always most comfortable in non fussy things.
Here in the UK most of the newborn things are cream and soft beiges, do they not do that in the USA?
I did cheat a bit though, I bought a special coming home outfit in blue and pink two weeks before my due date, knowing I could return the unwanted one in perfect condition with the receipt within 28 days!
Also, I was out 2hrs after the birth and shopping the next morning getting groceries, unless you have a C-Section or bad tears your out and about straight away(as long as not too cold for bubba of course!)
I just had my first baby, she is 3 weeks old… I didn’t have to buy anything, everyone at my baby shower bought me all neutral clothes. like yellows and greens.
We bought mostly gender neutral clothes (have you checked Babies R Us or baby specific stores?) and if we saw something to cute to pass up, we get it and hang on to the reciept so it could be returned.
For the most part we didn’t really buy a lot of clothes beforehand. Some onesies and sleepers and a couple "dress up" outfits. We did most of our clothes shopping a couple months after HE was born. You should have seen the cute little Christmas dress I bought (due date was in Dec) I almost cried when I took it back LOL.
yup just buy a couple of white things if thats all you can find, they grow out of them before they wear them more than a handful of times anyway!! then after a couple of weeks you’ll be dying to leavve the house so you can shop then. you’ll find a lot of people will give you clothes after he or she is born, they wont be able to help themselves!!
In all honesty when I got out of the hospital I couldn’t wait to go shopping, show my baby off and buy loads and loads of stuff for him. We didn’t know we were having a boy so we had lots of white stuff and also gifts. You could also buy a few outfits non-gender neutral ie: a few girly things and some boy things and once the baby is born you can keep the un-needed outfits and give them as a gift to someone who has a baby the opposite sex.
We decided to wait to find out our babies sex, we have purchased Carters brand onesies, they have ducks on them, and other animals. Then they have "Mommy/Daddy/Grandma" Loves Me on a white onesie with different color trims. I’ve also found solid color onesies, at kohls.. It’s hard! But you can do it. I just figure the baby will typically be in onesies for awhile and when I have the energy to go shopping we can go get all sex defining clothing!
Sometimes you get handme downs from pack rats so the ones that are wrong gender you can just bring them back.
My husband and I are being surprised.
We have had no issues finding neutral clothes from JC Penny, Babys R US and Walmart. We also went with pooh and friends with tigger/goofy theme. So far we found white, yellow and green clothes with those characters that would fit both boy or girl.
Now I do recommend having a few girl and a few boy clothes. Even if you don’t use one of the gender, you can always put it up incase you two decide for another one day.
