natural parents would you hire me (at home daycare)?
im planning to start an at home daycare. i live in a city but have a house. im only 22 but i am a single mother who’s very responsible and have a 9 month old DD. my house is immaculately clean and i will have a seperate room for naps. i plan to take 5 children 2+ and will be licensed.
we are TV free and i babywear (and would for any baby who needed it) live very naturally. have few plastic toys. spend alot of time in our big backyard. i am very nurturing and would never let a child CIO or anything of the sort.
I have never worked in a daycare only babysat but i was a nurse’s aide for five years and worked in alzheimer’s care for 2 years where i was solely responsible for 8+ patients
since i cook all our meals (DD and I) and they are allergen free organic homemade meals i would like to provide them for the kids as well.
all the kids would need to bring would be diapers and wipes and their own cream and a change of clothes.
does a day per child sound reasonable? we are is MA btw. would you trust me to watch your child? will my age be a negative factor?

You may have some issues getting customers, upfront, because of your age and your lack of references.
I would focus on building relationships and trust, first, get some references and then things will only get better for you in the future.
If you are going to be putting an add in the paper, I would also recommend advertising that you are open to providing parents with personal interviews and background check information.
I am not sure what the market is like in MA, but $50 seems reasonable. You may want to offer a little discount in the beginning if they are going to be leaving their child with you 5 days a week (so that you can encourage building your client base). .
Offer a trial period (2 weeks) and then make them sign a contract with agreed-upon rates and time periods these rates apply.
id rather you watch my child that a 50 year old,you sound you have experiance in caring,and take pride in looking after your child,the price is fine,but maybe offer a lower rate for parents if they wish to pack there own childs food?
$50 a day? no way that would be 1400 a month if i needed to work everyday which i do. i could go to a daycare and pay half that. that’s alot of money to be asking for. that’s 6.25 and hour which doesn’t seem like a lot but if i’m making $12/hr you are still getting more than half of my wage even before taxes so no i wouldn’t plus i don’t like in home daycares i like the fact that at my daycare there are cameras everywhere and anytime i want i can go online and enter my password and see my child and what they are doing right at that moment and who is around them.
One caregiver — an infant plus five kids? No, not a great ratio for $50/day.
If you have a baby and five very young children there is going to be unattended crying no matter what your intentions…
If it was realistic to gross $65k pa (at 22 with no relevant experience!) by staying at home, doing work that doesn’t require a unique skill set or any particular talent, I don’t think you’d see so many parents going back to work, y’know?
Well the home daycare I use is licensed and has 6 kids (my 16 month old is the youngest there). In our state you can only have a total of 6 kids in a licensed home daycare with one provider and only 2 kids under 2 among those 6.
5 kids over 2 should be absolutely fine for one adult but you may want to start with like 3 kids just to see how you handle it.
Honestly though just a few plastic toys? What are the kids gonna do if it’s rainy?

However, $50 a day is going to be too much for a home daycare. That’s what they charge for daycare centers here in CT (around $250 a week), and people generally use home daycares because they are less expensive. Mine is $185 a week per child for full time (I have 2 kids so I get a discount for the older one, I think it’s 10 or 15% off). It also gets cheaper the older the kids are.
My daycare provider is in her late 40s or so and 20 years of experience doing this daycare so you might be a bit overpriced for just starting out.
We have to provide diapers and wipes and their lunch but she provides snacks and juice.
Our provider has a room full of toys and she does crafts with them plus she has a playscape in the yard and takes them outside a lot. Once a week she takes them to the library for story time.
She is the best and they love going there. The kids are all very well behaved and sweet. I would never choose a daycare center over this daycare, she’s the best (and she never calls out sick – and if she ever does we don’t have to pay for that day).
People might be a bit skeptical due to your age and just starting out. But when I was visiting daycares I just got a feeling from mine, you just get a good feeling about someone and if you give off that good vibe people will choose you. I just knew when I went there that she was good. I checked her references but I knew she would be good just by meeting her.

I honestly don’t care much about no plastic toys, (and good luck finding lots of parents who do). What I care about is experience and individual attention.
As a parent, I am not looking for no tv/babywearing/organic meals as my first priority. I’d immediately think "22 year old with no experience and a baby of her own to look after, plus 5 other kids." There is simply no way I’d entertain the idea of leaving my daughter in that situation.

No, I wouldn’t hire you. I wouldn’t trust anyone who says ‘we are TV free’. I’d just think they were a complete mongo, to be honest, and wouldn’t want my children being around these idiots.
$50 is too expensive for someone so young and such a high child to caregiver ratio.
