My puppy is protesting the baby gate.. What can I do??
I have a 5 month old puppy and we have to baracade him to one are of the house with baby gates. He knows where he’s supposed to go to the bathroom, but in protest of the baby gate, he goes right in front of the gate making a huge mess to clean up when I get home. How can I break him of this?? Please help!!
we only use the baby gates when we have to leave him to go to work. when we are home he knows where he can and cannot go.

Crate him when he’s alone or unattended and work on his housebreaking!
let him know who’s boss.
Put a pee pad in front of it.
baby gates are great for limiting their access to the house, but nothing beats crate training for house breaking a pup- most won’t mess in their own crate.
Like any young creature, human or not, it’s going to protest until it gives in or gets it’s way. The best solution to your problem is to crate the pup when you are not at home.
I was never one for crate use until we adopted a hyper husky and I learned fast the benefits of using a crate.
So you are leaving a puppy in a room uncrated, that is your first. He needs to be crated in a crate just big enough for him to stand up and turn around and lay back down, he will never be broken of this habit if you do not give him his own room. If he has his own room he will understand the whole den theory and he will not poop or pee in his own den and with time will not do so in yours. He needs to have consistency.
i found the best way with my dog was just using old fashioned newspaper with a bin liner underneath and day by day move it nearer to the back/front door then remove it completely and it seemed to do the trick!
Well for starters dont leave him in that area 24/7 he needs to explore I use baby gates too and I havent had a problem as long as I am home when I leave to run errands I put him in his crate he is now use to being in his crate and if he needs to go to the bathroom he stands by the door and scratches he is 12 weeks old now and I started him at 7 weeks.
how about taking him out and stop shuting him up in one room so you cant see what hes doing for one thing….. ok first if he gets up he has to pee if he drinks he has to pee if you watch him he will start looking around for a place…… why not get a book or read on here how to train a dog im sure you will have a better chance in learning more about the dog if you just watch them…. five months he is young still but he should know to go to the door by now but he cant get out of the room you have him in so
