Mommy’s-at what age do you allow your baby to sleep with a blanket?
My baby is 7 months old and is currently a co-sleeper with me. We are going to begin working on having her sleep in her own bed here pretty soon, but where we are at gets pretty chilly at night. Even with the thermostat up, it can be "drafty". At what age did you allow your child to sleep with a blanket? If they can’t sleep with a blanket, how did you make them snuggly and comfortable in their own bed?

My son started sleeping with his blanket when he was 8 or 9 months and he was perfectly fine.
But if you don’t feel comfortable with a blanket, you can look on the internet or your local baby stores to see if they have a wearable blanket sleeper in your baby’s size. It’s basically pajamas and a blanket in one…my son used that before we put him with just a blanket.
I allowed my daughter to sleep with one at around 6 months which was when it started getting chilly here…but I only did this because she was able to sit up on her own, crawl and roll over…so I knew if the blanket were to end up over her head at some point, she would be able to get out from under it. I also made sure it was a baby blanket and not a large one that was hard for her to manage.
My son will be 7 months next week. We began giving him a blanket about 3 weeks ago. I wait until he is asleep to put it on him only because he would play with it otherwise
my son slept with his blanket since he was tiny at 7 months old she should be fine! my son has slept in his own bed since he was 3 weeks old because he refused the basinet and i couldnt take not sleeping anymore. hes had a blanket in his room since he came home! its not a big fluffy one so make sure of that! i used a receiving blanket for the longest time (i had thousands!) and then switched to a warmer one!
In my opinion I wont let my baby girl use a blanket until she can grab one herself and cover herself…I was thinking around 18 months-2 years old, but that is just want I feel most comfortable with-i dont think 7 months is young…what my doctor told me to do because I have cold nights also, is tightly put a blanket under the mattress so it wont slide around and put the baby half way under neath. I can not do this because my daughter moves too much at night. I would suggest just warmer clothes-they have flanel sheets for the crib- and warm long sleeve onies. Maybe put a heater in your room-but remember over heating a baby can just he as harmful as a baby being too cold. In the book what to expect the first year says at night in the winter time babies temp in the room should be around 60-65 degrees.
I co-sleep also, and I live in NH so it’s pretty cold here in the winter. I just talked to my doctor about this at my daughter’s 4 month checkup Monday and she said it’s ok for her to sleep with a light polar fleece blanket on as long as it’s only pulled up to her chest and tucked in if she’s sleeping in her own bed.
I’m not sure about that, b/c my daughter is only 3.5 months old. But I do dress her in a sleeper with footies and a Halo Sack wearable blanket. I don’t know what I would do without it! If you don’t know what I am refering to, here is a link:
https://www.halosleep.com/
"Designed by a parent who lost an infant to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), and now being used in hospital nurseries nationwide, the HALO® SleepSack™ wearable blanket replaces loose bedding in the crib that can cover your baby’s face and interfere with breathing. It’s the only product that carries the gold seals from First Candle/SIDS Alliance and the Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths."
They have them for children all the way up to 24 months. This way I know she’s not too hot (they are made with breatheable fabric) and she’s not too cold! I would highly recommend getting one. Hope this helped!
