The Salvation Army thrift Store is wonderful for this. they really do help the needy.

Hello, Hellen. That is wonderful that you show interest in the needy. Yes, there are many places where you can go and deliver the clothing yourself. However, that depends on where you live.
For instance. My non profit organization is currently engaged in helping the victims of Tropical Storm Noel in the Dominican Republic, but if you are (for example) in Oklahoma, the trip would be kind of expensive.
Never the less, there are many people who need the clothing not far from your home. A local church or even your local Social Services Office can direct you to the people in need.
The following is a link will direct you to an Asker who seems to be needing the help and may be close to you. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjmF5e_XPuJOzaEZJ5MXrNHx7BR.;_ylv=3?qid=20071119230253AA85roD
I wish there were more people like you in this world. Blessings.
David.

The Red Cross could use them to clothe the children in orphanages in Croatia, etc. You could also donate thetm to the Salvation Army.
