Is it appropriate to have a baby shower for a 13 year old unwed mother?
Hi my friends were talking in school today about having a baby shower for one of our friends who just got pregnant. Since we all support equal rights for men and women we want to invite the baby’s father and any of the boys we know. I know my boyfriend Jamie who is a friend of the 14 year old father would love to come and participate. A few of the girls said that the parents might object. Why would they? Oh her parents decided not to make her a nun because they don’t think she could get with the program. The baby’s father says he loves her and wants to be part of her life and the child’s life. Her parents told her that she cn still see him as long as she promises never never again until she turns 18. Also she wants her boy to have visitation on the baby on weekends (the baby would stay with his parents and during the week her parents would have the baby.) Anyway what do all of you think about a baby shower for her it would make her feel better.
My friend is 13 too NOT 12. She just got confirmed pregnant by her doctor because she missed her period and had to tell her parents how far their relationship had gotten. She thought that if she let him without protection close to the start of her period she wouldnt get pregnant. He kept on begging her to let him that way and she gave in. Oh welll!!! Oh ya, Jamie’s mom was an unwed mother too but a few years older and she’s the strictest parent you could imagine. Like on school nights he still has to go to bed at 8:30 pm. And after my friend got pregnant and everyone knew she had a heart to heart talk with the both of us and made us PROMISE NEVER GO THAT FAR!!! My parents did the same thing.
I love all your answers (well most answers anyway). I’m going to let this go to voting. My mom and some of the other parents are going to help us out in having a shower but like a few of you said its too soon so in a few more months. We hugged and kissed and cried a little but she knows that her friends are with her and love her and know she’s going to make a great mother. I told her don’t be like Jamies mom and treat him (or her) like a baby at 13. I told you like Jamie is the only 13 yr old boy who has an 8:30 bedtime and has warm milk and cookies with his mom cuddling him at bedtime. Oh welllll!! When he grows up he won’t have an 8:30 bedtime because he’ll be too busy making his wife happy in bed ME lol lol).

I think it’s a great idea. This way she gets a lot of help that she needs because 13 is such a young age and I’m sure she would appreciate getting gifts to help out. It will also let her know that her friends are there for her and accept that she is having a baby without being judgemental.

She’s gonna need all the toys and baby clothes she can get.
Well, there’s no point in denying her a baby shower. She’s lucky she has a supporting boyfriend.
If she’s planning on keeping the baby, it only makes sense that she gets help with stuff for it.
Having a baby is hard enough WITH maturity and a partner.

I hate to break it to you, but until you turn 18, you are not men and women, and as well, until you turn 18 you have no rights. I don’t know if it is a good idea to give a 13 year old a baby shower, because it is in a way saying that it is okay for her to be having sex and be pregnant. She needs to realize that what she did was wrong, and a party celebrating what she did does not seem like that good of an idea.
I think it will be good to do a baby shower for her.If that makes her and her parents and her boyfriend happy yes it will be a good idea.Its really nice to make a baby shower for a beloved friend.Ok,the point is its a good idea.

A thirteen year old unwed mother, so she had sex at the age of 12, charming girl!! Yeah give her a baby shower she could use the things herself seeing that she is still s baby herself. No wonder the world is what it is today.
You have a good idea in regard to helping her (she will need lots of caring friends). I would try to get her Mom, relatives and other friends and their Moms involved.
All I’m going to say is I find it very hard to believe a 13 year old girl would be pregnant. I don’t mean to sound indelicant, but whose the father?
i don’t think a 13 year old needs a baby shower she is just a baby herself, why encourage her it’s like telling her it’s ok and have more babies for other people to take care of
Pregnant at 13? A father at 14? And you want to have a party to celebrate? Call me old-fashioned, concerned, outraged, and totally blown away. No, you shouldn’t have a party this isn’t a reason to celebrate at all. If you want to get her things her child will need, give them to their parents because they will be raising and supporting that baby…as they both are children and unable to work to support the child themselves. They should both be scared! Having a child is a full-time, life-time commitment that you can’t walk away from even if you give the child up for adoption.
Yes, I think it’s appropriate to have a shower for any parent-to-be. One of the purposes of a baby shower is to allow friends to help the parents out with items they’ll need for the baby, and certainly a 13 year old will need the help even more than other new parents. Plus I think it’s very thoughtful of you and your friends to want to do something nice for your friend who is going through a difficult time in her life.
Just one note – it’s usual to have a baby shower fairly late in the pregnancy, so if she just found out that she’s pregnant, you might want to plan something for a few months from now when she’ll be 6 or 7 months pregnant.

It is perfectly appropriate to host a baby shower for her and a great idea because having a baby is expensive and she will be able to recieve gifts and she will have a good time at the baby shower. It is also acceptable for males to attend the baby shower although most of the time they don’t. Talk to her mother and see if she would like to help you plan the baby shower. Good luck
ok first of all a 12 or 13 year old has no business having sex in the first place but understanding the world is severely lacking in morals these days why on earth would you celebrate the fact that some immature hormone riddled little girl got knocked up seriously if she thinks she is woman enough to lay down and have sex make her accountable for her actions and she can go get a job and pay for it herself, her poor parents are going to be lumped with the baby till she snaps out of her little all about me world and grows up! just sickening
It is completely innapropriate to have a baby shower for a 13 year old. This sends a message to other girls that it is OK to have babies at 13.
The mother should consider giving this baby up for adoption.
