I'm having two baby showers, but I'm anxious and I want to shop for the baby. What should I buy?
This is my first child, so we’re starting from scratch. Any ideas of things I’ll need regardless of how the showers turn out?
Thanks

You should go register for your showers then people will buy you what you want, it’s like shopping but you don’t bring all the stuff home with you that day. If you’ve really got the itch why not start by painting the nursery?
I would wait until after the two baby showers. You might end up with too many multiples of the same thing.
just stick to clothes for now, preferably the 12 month and older because you mostly get newborn and 0-3 at the showers
You’ll need larger clothes…Buy sleepers, onsies and outfits in the 6 to 9 months range
baby things. bottles, binkies, all think kinda junk babies do that high-pitched-scream-of-joy for.
just start buying diapers and wipes. you can never have to many of those. and onesies and sleepers.
Bottles, diapers, wipes are always safe to buy because you’ll always need those. Just get size 2 diapers because you’ll probably get plenty of newborn and size 1s. Blankes are also good. By the decorations for the room so that you get to pick them out and make sure everyone knows that you already got the bed set. Get the baby book for the hospital so that you can have the babies feet stamped in it. The coming home outfit if you want to pick it out. They take the babies hospital picture in this outfit before you leave.
Clothes, diapers, wipes, bibs, pacifiers, pajamas, a beach type hat for taking the new baby outside, books, a bookcase, baby’s first teddy bear, a piggy bank you can take to the baby shower with you, big ticket items that you don’t think anyone in your family is going to buy or that you want to pick out yourself, if your breastfeeding, get the stuff for that cuz you might not get it at the shower and you want it before the baby is born. Good luck
i would wait until after the showers….since you are having two you may get everything you need adn then you can spend that money on YOU
if you do buy things right before the baby shower. You could end up taking twice as many things as you would by going to the baby shower. After about a day maybe go to the store and buy things you think you still need. Or after about a month after they are born take them shopping. That’s what my mom did with me. Oh and it would probably be best to register at a baby store like, baby’s R us.
Wait til after your showers. I got clothes sizes up to 3T! I didn’t have to buy diapers or wipes for 5 months. Especially with two showers you may not have to buy anything!
You should definately register for the basics but don’t get too many of anything, you may find that you don’t like something once you’ve tried it. For my shower, a lot of my guests got me their favorite brands of diapers, wipes and other stuff so I got to try a variety of stuff out. Just remember that what one mom swears by doesn’t always work for another.
People aren’t likely to supply things like cribs, strollers, carseats, swings, and the more expensive items at showers. It’s a good idea to register at department stores (your choice) and let people know where you’re registered. That way you can get the things you need and want as gifts! And you can never have enough diapers!
Diapers! and things like baby powder, ointment for diaper rash, a GOOD baby thermometer ( though, you might get one as a gift, hold off on that ). Think of all the day to day essentials that run out. Make sure you have plenty of those. And there is nothing wrong with going ahead and buying baby clothes ( If you know the sex ) at good, clean second hand stores. In fact , we have a chain of them in our area where you can trade in your good stuff and get other stuff that was traded in at a discount. ITs a great deal ! My friends LOVE It for their kids! I mean, face it, how many times can a baby wear a dress or shirt before they outgrow it??
You’re a very fortunate woman to be getting 2 showers. Make a list of things you think you will need, like I mentioned- diapers etc. – and keep it with you for when you find sales and then stock up. ITs not like they go bad!!
Oh, and here is a tip- For a baby present, I often get a good, canvas SHOE bag for the parents to hang on the nursery door. You know, with like 20 pockets or so in it. These are wonderful for putting all of baby’s little things in and keeping extra diapers, burp cloths, powders , lotions and all those little toys that get in the way- up OUT of the way.You can get a nice canvas one with mesh pockets for under $20 at Walmart and it sure works great!
You will always need a ton of onezy’s those little t-shirts things that snap together in the crotch area. A ton of diapers, formula and those kind of things. Also get any cute little outfits that you just love and a diaper bag that you love and is big with lots of pockets. A lot of mothers will do the same thing as if you was getting married, go to Babies R Us or some store like that and you can register in the same way , that way people will get things that you actually picked out and buy the other things you did not put on your register.
When me and my daughter went shopping for her baby we got things like:
thermometer , baby monitor, bath toys, bath tub, etc.
She also had 2 showers and we picked out things for family members to go in on, like the crib, all the matching bedding, matching mobil, pillow and all the stuff that goes with the bed, and also a bassinet, play pen (wow those things are so important to have, you’ll use it more than you can imagine).
Hope this helps and congrats (:
Buy whatever you want. You can always return items if they are from Wal-Mart or Target and long as it is unopened…take the money and put it on a girftcard….that way later on when your supply you have been stocking up on dwindles you can use the giftcard for diapers or a different season of clothes etc.
Of course some things from the showers you will keep like clothes and such but for example you may get a ton of newborn diapers and you won’t need that many so might as well take them back and swap them out for a bigger size.
i would wait to see what you get at the shower, you dont want to overshop as its alot of money and they grow out of things so fast. but blankets, bottles, diapers, onesies, clothing, car seat, stroller, crib, changing table, grooming supplies, bottle steralizers,
I recommend buying the larger items like a crib, bassinet, and or cradle, changing table, carseat, stroller, etc. Those are the items you are not as likely to get at your showers unless people go in on them. People tend to buy lots of clothes, blankets, and stuffed animals for shower gifts because those are the items that are fun to shop for. You will probably get mostly clothing from Newborn to 3-6 months sizes, so if you buy clothes, I suggest buying larger sizes, and keep in mind the season it will be when your baby fits that size.
You will probably get some diapers at your showers, but you can never have enough diapers. I recommend not buying too many Newborn size cause depending on the baby’s size at birth, you may not use them, or only for a short time. But you CAN take them back to the store to exchange for other sizes if they aren’t opened.
Buy your baby something special from you, a blanket or a stuffy. My son has a special stuffed bear named "Brownie" that his daddy bought him and he has a special soft blankie that I bought as soon as I found out I was pregnant.
If you have a theme for your nursery, you can start buying odds and ends for it. Example: my son’s theme is monkeys. So I started buying blankets, towels, clothing, a nightlight, a soother, etc. that had monkeys on them.
