If you had a bigger baby how long did your infant fit into newborn size clothes?
And also how big was your baby? I bought a few newborn size clothes and also quite a few 0-3 month clothes, my MIL the other day was telling me that was dumb because if I have a big baby (which my doctor already confirmed I more then likely will) he wont even fit into the newborn size and probably wont fit into the 0-3, then she went onto say how her friends daughters had a big baby (9 pounds 9 ounces) didnt fit into anything except 6-9 month outfits since she was born, so now I am freaking out cause I am not sure if I still have the receipts and I’ve already started washing them. I only have like 3-4 newborn size, quite a few 0-3 month, quite a few 3-6 month sizes and hardly any 6-9 months yet. Is she right?
I was a 9 pound 8 ounce baby I havent asked my mother yet if I fit into newborn size or 0-3 month…oh and then I was telling my MIL how the I think 0-3 month says it fits up to 18 pounds and she started laughing and saying how the tags are never right and they would never fit an 18 pound baby and how nieve I was being

my newborn was 9 lbs 0-3mo fit him "like a glove also". within about 4-5 wks they were too small he is still in 3-6 mo at 3 months and 16 lbs but again at the "like a glove" point so I don’t expect them to last much longer.
My 8 pound 3 ounce baby never really fit into newborn clothes. They actually fit him like a glove them a few days later he was ten pounds.
my daughter was 8 pounds and 10 ounces and she fir into new born clothes for about 3 weeks and then we had to put her in the 0-3 mnth clothes she is noe 2 1/2 mnths and last week she started wearing some 3-6 mnth clothes
my baby was not bigger she was 6 lb 12 oz, she wore newborn for 2 months. when she hit 10 lb is when she went to 0-3. she is 12 lb now and 3 months and still in 0-3.
hope this helps.
I also didnt have any NB clothes when she was born but had to go buy them after bc the 0-3 were HUGE
my ten pounder wore 0-3 month clothes from day one and he wore them for about 4 weeks, also, they can be really off on their weight estimate, don’t let them scare you
My daughter was well over 9lbs, and we never used ‘newborn’-sized clothes or diapers at all.
I had an almost 10-pound baby, but he fit in newborn clothes just fine for the first month. Some brands of clothing tend to be bigger than others, but I actually don’t think there were any 0-3 month clothing that he would have fit in right away. With all of my children, who were all over 8 pounds, they didn’t tend to fit into 0-3 month clothing until they were around 1 month.
my baby was born 7 pounds 2 oz so he fit the 0-3 months just fine but he got big really fast. by 2 months he was wearing 6-9 months and by 3-4 months was wearing 12 months allready. he is almost 11 months now and weighs 30 pounds and wears size 2t. he is a big boy…
my daughter was 7lb 10oz when she was born and 21-1/2" (so long and lean) but was out of newborn size before she ws even 2wks old.
Jack was 8lbs 11 ozs and long. It was cold where we were so we needed the sleepers. He grew out of those quickly. He was three months old wearing nine month sleepers. But, he fit into 0-3 onesies when he was four months old. It depends on the brand and the type of clothing. Jack grew out of pants quickly but the shirts would last forever.
The baby needs to warm when they are born. I would invest in sleepers that are 3-6 month and gowns ( they are one size fit all ). Buy a few 0-3 outfits, your baby will probably fit into those for a few weeks but if you think you are going to have a big baby, I would go for the 3-6 month old stuff. That is what Jack was mostly wearing by the time he was two months old. But still, it took two months.
BTW, 0-3 is meant to go to twelve pounds.
My baby was 8 pounds, 2 ounces. She wore 3-6, I think but some of the newborn outfit worked. Best of w/ 3-6, i think 6-9 would be to big because that is like 14-19 pounds
I had an 8lb 6oz baby and he fit into newborn clothes for the first couple weeks. He seemed to go through the 1-3 mo clothes really fast and barely got to wear them at all. At about 4 1/2 mo we put him in 6-9 mo clothes and that is were he has been hanging out ever since (6 mo now).
Be sure to NOT put the clothes in the dryer. I didn’t want to hassle with hanging then fluffing his clothes because I thought it was such a pain. But then I realized that they fit a lot longer if I air dry them.
It takes a little bit to get the hang of knowing what size to buy. I fretted too. You’ll get the hang of it. Just dont buy too much until you know for sure.
My baby was 10lbs 7oz and he did fit into some newborn stuff but only for like a week He wore the 0-3 for a few more and then the 3-6 fit him for awhile. now at 3 months he is starting to wear some of the 6-9 month cloths. Sorry, but I wouldn’t listen to your MIL, she isn’t right. I wouldn’t buy anymore than what you have though because the baby won’t be in them very long, but you will still want stuff that fits your baby when he is born so keep what you have. I have never heard of or seen a newborn baby that fit into 6-9 month clothing, that’s crazy, I think that maybe she is exaggerating a bit.
My son was 9lbs 14oz and he was newborn size for at least 3 months.
My baby was born 8 lb and 4.5 oz but he was very, very tall. So, sometimes you can not go by the weight that is stated on the clothes. I had to go by the lenght. He went right in to 0-3 months and changed sizes up about once every 3 – 4 weeks until he was 6 months old (in 18-24 month old clothes). After that it slowed down.
My son was 9lbs and he fit into NB sizes for about 2 weeks. Now he is almost 4 months and he fits into all different sizes. It really depends on the outfit. The size on the tags are never accurate. I have him wearing 6-9months clothes but he still fits into some 0-3 month clothes. When he was born I had this sleeper that said 6mos on it and he couldn’t even fit into it. It seriosuly just depends on the piece of clothing. I never go by what the tag says, I hold it up to him and see if it’ll fit.
my son was 8lbs 3 oz and was 23 inches long…the newborn clothes fit him except i couldnt button the onesies because he was so tall… he was super skinny though..and i did the same thing by washing everything and couldnt return it…but i had 3 other friends that had a boy about 3 months after me, so they are getting all my handme downs… m son only fit into 0-3 months for his first month, and was wearing 3-6 fast… only because they didnt make them long enough…he was still super skinny….
he has never fit into the right size…right now he is 9 months, and is wearing 12-18 month clothes…i look at the weight instead of the actual month size, that gives you a better estimate on what your baby will fit into.
congrats and good luck!
it depends on the shape of the baby & clothes.
my baby was 8lbs 10oz when she was born, and she fit newborn sizes, in fact they seemed so big on her! she didn’t wear them long–maybe a month or so. don’t get many. my LO is 4 months old now, and still wears *some* 0-3 month things, but is also in *some* 9-12 month things… but 3-6 or 6-9mo is what she generally wears (she’s about 16 lbs) she’s a LONG skinny baby, so she can wear pants & dresses from 0-3 mo size still, but onsies & one-piece outfits need to be larger sizes for her.
don’t freak out, you’ll use them all. i don’t see how a baby can wear 6-9 month clothes from the start. my best friend had a 10.5 lb baby & he wore 0-3 month clothes as a newborn. not for very long, but still… your MIL sounds a little misinformed. (maybe a little rude even!)
Sorry to say but most newborn clothes are tiny. My girl is a preemie and she didn’t even stay in them long. The newborn were of course huge on her at birth, she was only 4lbs 8 oz when she came home. But by the time she reached 7-10 pounds she was out growing them
to break it down by weight I found
8-9 pounds-very few newborn, mainly 0-3 months
10-12 pounds-3 months, 3-6 month clothing
12-14 pound -3-6 months clothing, some 6 months
15 pounds- six month clothing
often when you have to go up a size you will find that the new size is a little big while the old was a little small- very normal and babies grow so fast the clothes don’t stay big for long. You do have the right blend I would say.
my 9lb 11oz boy started right into 3-6 months & size one diapers….nothing newborn for him. My newest is currently in transition…he’s outgrown some of the 0-3 month outfits, some are still ok, and he’s 12lb 14oz now (2months old). So you should be ok for a while! Just don’t buy anymore small stuff & let friends/family know that the bigger sizes would be appreciated if they’re buying baby a gift.
My son was 8 lbs 12 oz when he was born.He wore preemie sizes for 2 weeks, newborn for next month or so & 0-3 months up until he was around 3 months old.Plus just because the doctor told you that you would have a big baby, doesn’t mean you will.Mother in laws think they know everything too.Dont sweat it.
Emma was eight pounds and nine ounces. She was in newborn until she was ten pounds, about two weeks. Zero to three were just too big. I did not buy any fancy clothes though, just some sleepers and maybo one going out outfit as those first few weeks are spent at home. She was in 0 to 3 for three months. Emma was right on track with the sizes and the cooresponding months until now. She pretty much skipped 6 to 9 and went straight to 12 months.
