How old should my baby be before i put him to bed with a blanket?

My baby is 5 months old, and he goes to sleep at nine o’clock. He usually falls asleep while i am nursing him and is wrapped in a blanket. When I put him to bed he wakes up when I take the blanket off of him. How old should he be when he can keep his blanket in the bed with him?

my brother was newborn when he had a blankey but it wasn’t one that covered him it was just a snuggle blankey. My mom put him to bed with a blanket that covered him when he was around seven or eight months. Really its whenever the baby can sit up for itself and maybe shove the blanket off of them if it covers their mouth.

to be honest i always put my daughter to bed with her blanket i know it said not to because of sids but she was born in the winter and i felt bad and it never affected her specially now i think around 5 months she would move around so much it would always end up no were near her so i think its safe but that’s just my opinion
I have always just used an afghan with large holes in it so you never have to worry.
