How do you install baby gates when ornate baseboards are in the way?
I’ve got several baby gates that I need to install. Most are pressure mounted but I have 2 that will have to be screwed into the wall.
The problem is I have ornate baseboards all over the house and to make it worse downstairs we have wooden floors so under the baseboards there are additional rounded pieces of wood baseboard that match the wood flooring; kind of like this: http://www.rags2richs.net/kenny-baseboard-best.jpg
I have no flat space to work with. I’ve seen the baby gate installation kits but the pictures show flat baseboards. What can I do without ripping the baseboards out to create a flat surface? I can’t just drill wood into the baseboard because of the decoration.

Add shims at the top, and near the bottom (above the baseboards) of the gates. This will make up the difference of the space the baseboards take up. I am guessing that 3/4 or 1" blocks would cure the problem.
Or install them above the baseboards. That’s what I did for my dog’s gate.
