Even if your cat is neutered, if it wasn’t done very young, he may spray when he feels like it. We have one like that, he was done at 6 months (because that is what the vet told us), but if he is cross with us he will spray on things in the house – otherwise he only does it outside. Our next cat got done at the animal shelter before we got him home, so he was very young, and he does not spray at all. I think your cat is jealous of the new arrival, that is why he is spraying. If he already wants so much attention, he is not going to welcome a new cat. You said you moved there 4 years ago, maybe the move made him more clingy, afraid he might be left? Do any other people live with you? Maybe they could start showing him more affection, so he will not think you are the only one – if you are the only one who feeds him, let them do it too, so he will feel confident that other humans will take care of him.
Other than that – I think you’ve just got a gorgeous loving cat!
Try getting the cat castrated. It sounds like the problem is hormone related.
We have a 2 year old cat who is very needy also.
Both my wife and myself work from home so it is not such an inconvenience because he is entertaining and cheeky. But he follows my wife everywhere.
BTW he is castrated but that didn’t make any difference to his character at all. (although he did stop humping a stuffed toy lamb!).
Maybe castration would make a difference to his spraying behaviour tho. Our cat doesn’t spray at all – even outside. I think the spraying is a characterisitc of a sexually mature male.
I took care for a friend’s cat for a few days, and it did just that…
I even had to let it into the bathroom while taking a loooooong bubble bath…imagine that cat staring at me and sniffing around…
