How do I know if my daughter has infant reflux?
My daughter is 6 weeks old. She is always crying. I believe she has infant reflux and I think she is really herding from it. The symptoms that she has is she eats just for eating, spits up, she is fussy, gets a lot of hiccups and makes a lot of saliva like if she was teething. She is always unhappy no matter what I do. What do you think? Please help!

ok my son had reflux when he was 2 weeks old. those are not the signs. the signs are projectile vomiting and slow weight gain. you need to get tests done to find out for sure,my son had 3 done. its impossible in just one doctors visit. yes the doctor will prescribe you something the first day just because now days thats what they do to make the parents feel like they are doing something, instead of trying to figure out whats really going on. but you should, ask for the tests to be done at your local children’s hospital. my son was put on previcid he grew out of his reflux when he was 2 1/2 yrs old. oh and he was 5 weeks early, its mostly common in babies who were premature. there could be long term side affects with anti acid meds, so check that out too. that is why your baby should get tested to make sure before she is put on meds.
are you breastfeeding?
so i just had my daughter one month ago, and she was the same way, still kind of is. fussy, gassy, spit up alot, and hiccups. so i was looking around on the internet and found this website.

but it for if you are breastfeeding, this could be the problem, it was for me, and it helped. sometimes she still has these symptoms but they are getting drastically better.
so i hope this helps….. it hard to figure out what wrong.
Ask her doctor.
Is she bottle/formula fed? If so, that’s normal. That’s what comes with formula fed babies.
If no, she probably does have reflux,
As a sufferer of Acid Reflux myself I can tell you I make a lot of saliva when I am having an attack. I would make a Doctors appt for tomorrow and get some medicine to put into her bottle or, try buying the bottles that are supposed to stop the reflux, tho I cant see how that would work.
It doesn’t sound like reflux, but you can’t be sure without a medical diagnosis from your pediatrician. For hiccups you can give a VERY small amount of water (< 1 oz) daily. Is she breastfed or formula fed? How do you dilute the formula? What kind of water do you use?
It doesn’t matter if she is breastfed or formula fed she can still have acid reflux. I breastfed my son when he was first born and he would projectile vomit and he did have acid reflux.
If the valve on top of their stomachs are not fully developed, then everything that they eat can move up into their esophogus causing heatburn pain. There are a list of symptoms you wouldn’t even think of that can confirm if she is suffering. Hiccups and the drooling are big indications as well as the other things you have listed, an infant also may typically overeat as well, the doctors told me it was because the milk soothes their belly.
Also, does she sleep less than she should for her age? Does she cry alot when you lay her down? Does she always want to be held? Does she use a pacifier and then spit it out? Does she arch her back alot? These are all things my son did until we put him on pepcid, it took about a week to start making him feel better and it was a difficult decision to put a child so young on medication, but he grew out of it around a year and he’s happy and healthy. You should contact your pediatrician.
When my son was 6 weeks old we had a doctors appt for him. He was only sleeping a hour and a half to two hours at a time at night, lots of hiccups, some spitting up, a dry cough that was very random and would frequently take breaks while feeding or would eat just to eat, but would only take in a ounce or two and then fuss. He was diagnosed with reflux. They prescribed liquid zantac for infants and after he had his two doses that day, we put him to bed that night and he slept for 4 hours and 10 min! We also put a pillow UNDER his mattress, so there was no sids risk, but he was elevated, which helps keep the acid down! Good luck! (he is fed with soy formula)
Those ARE symptoms. It is called "silent reflux" when there is no vomiting. My son was extra fussy, especially while eating. hiccups is for sure a symptom. The only way he was diagnosed was the dr looked at his throat and saw that it was red and irritated. She gave him baby zantac, and within a week, he was a totally different baby.
