Well, first of all, the first answer was kind of mean
I think you should get some velcro and use it on the back of the "sliders" to stop it from sliding easily. Or you could get some eye hooks (like the ones some people use on screen doors).
As far as the gates, we have the same problem and I think we are going to get those really long ones. I don’t think we have many options!

the home belongs to the family, so allow the family in every room. keep chemicals in a locked cabinet & reserve one drawer and cabinet in the kitchen for the child. this way, he’ll be able to ‘help’ you when you work in the kitchen. encourage him & get outside more often.
use a hook lock for the cabinets. like the one you would use on a normal door, just make sure you get the ones that are not sharp. as for the baby gate, you may have to just skip that one. or you may have to make a gate yourself.

I have them on my odd-opening cupboards. I stuck one end to the cupboard door and the other end to the side of the cupboard (like in the picture). There’s a notch in the strap so when you need top open the cupboard you "undo" the button which frees the strap, then when you’re done you refasten it.

To block off that gap you need a room divider rather than a safety gate, such as this one:

It opens right up and clamps to the wall to make a big long divider with a gate in the middle that can be opened and closed as needed.
