Do you need to use special detergent to wash your infant's clothes?
Or would any plain/unscented detergent work?(like arm and hammer brand)
Is it normal to buy seperate detergent for your baby? If so for how long (like up to one year old? 2 years old?
What other brands of detergent would work (a brand you could find in any Walmart/Target store)
I always remember seeing my sister using "Dreft" and I was going to use it as well.
Wow, thanks for all of the answers. All Free and Clear seems to be good, I will make sure I try that before buying Dreft

Dreft is a good idea, especially if skin issues or allergies run in your family. I have always used scent-free, dye-free detergents like ALL Free and Clear and have never had any problems : )
You can use Dreft but anything that is odorless will help.
I used dreft with my daughter until she was around 6 months old. I am also 38 weeks along and have started washing all the babies cloths and mine for the hospital in dreft. Their skin is so sensitive when they are born that our detergent may cause a rash or reaction in some way.
I use the same detergent as I use for the rest of the family. Dreft is expensive and I would only use it if my baby seems to be having a reaction to the normal detergent
I just used regular detergent with mine. She never had any problems with it. I’ve used several different brands..walmart brand to non store brand.
Any laundry soap that is dye and fragrance free is ok. These are what irritate most babies skin so opt for a brand a soap without them. Dreft isn’t required as the only differance is that it’s dye and fragrance free and costs more than store brand.
I make my own detergent, and I would recommend Dr Bronner’s Castile Soap. Its a very mild soap that can be used in many different ways around the house. It also is all natural so there is little to no chemicals. Deft still has quite the detergent smell with A LOT of chemicals in it.
for my son(first baby) i bought the "all" baby stuff until he was 6 months old. then with my daughter i just used regular detergent. we used all free and clear, until i got my he washer and now i use the rain scent one. it isnt really a big deal at all unless your baby has SUPER sensitive skin. so yes, any unscented plain detergent will work.
i use All Free and Clear for all of our clothes. you just don’t want to use anything with dye or scents in it
Dreft Stinks and makes clothes smell. Try Purex Free and Clear. We still use that just because we like it and its the same price as the regular kind.
You don’t *need* to use an expensive made-for-babies-only laundry detergent. Few babies have such sensitive skin that they actually require such a thing. Think about it – if this were the case, they would break out immediately from being held against our clothing that was washed with "regular" detergent.
I hate the way most detergents smell, and have used Purex Free and Clear since the day my daughter arrived. Love it, and it’s far less expensive than other popular name brands.
Yes use Dreft.
Babies have really sensitive skin .
Laundry detergents have fragrances and other stuff that can make babies skin irrtated
at first i did you the dreft but as he got older i just use wht ever one we have and he never had a rash or anything
