Do you buy brand name clothing for your baby?

Brands like Gymboree and Baby Gap…are full with cute baby clothes, but I find are a little overpriced. Is it really worth spending -25 for a tee shirt, just for it to be outgrown rather quickly, or ruined by the pesky stains of baby food?
Whats your thoughts?

The only way I will buy them is if they are on sale. Sometimes Gap has good sales. But I would never pay $10-25 for something that will only last a short time. Id rather buy the cheaper clothes so that I have more money to buy toys and what not. And I think if you were to ask the child if they wanted an expensive shirt or a toy they would pick toy.
Hell no it’s not worth it- I will buy them at yard sales for a quarter or happily accept them as hand me downs, but that’s about it.
no way, i go to sears or babies r us and get the stuff on the sale racks (carters is my fav kind of clothing though it seems better quality than others so i look for carters clothes on sale)

I only buy the name brand baby clothes when I find them on an irresistable sale… or clearance… oh, or even second hand at garage sales… ♥
I think it is asinine to spend so much money on their being a label placed on something… sure they do have nice clothes, but there is more to raising a baby then them having materialistic items….
No never did they grew so fast it wasn’t worth it, beside your only paying for the name( save your money girl).
I think they are wayy overpriced, sometimes even more than what i would spend on myself for a tee shirt or jeans, i love target baby clothes and think they’re just as cute!
but its nice to splurge sometimes, a cute baby gap sweater or cute pair of jeans from the childrens place every once in awhile wont hurt, they are cute : ), sometimes i just can’t help it lol
Just because you can afford it, isnt a response, i can afford those clothes too, but i would rather put the extra money away in their bank account instead of spending it all on worthless clothes
Heck no….I buy second hand clothes from consignment shops mostly. If I buy new clothes, I’ll get them from Walmart, Target or Sears. Unless you are rich, you’d be crazy to shop for baby clothes only at expensive stores. Kids grow out of things way too quickly…
YES because we can afford it..
I get any brand as long as it is something I like and in my price range. My son has clothes from everywhere. Target, Walmart, Dollar General, JCPenny, Old navy, Baby gap, Gordman’s, and many more.
I can still buy these items, but I get them on clearance or on sale. There is an outlet mall near us-they are less expensive there. Not only that but places like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Burlington Coat Factory carry great name brands. I also found that Spray -N- Wash works better than all the other stain removers.
I only dress my children in name brands, they wash and wear better. BUT I buy them at consignment stores. If you don’t mind used clothing, you can’t beat it.
Yes and no. Before my son was born my husband insisted everything be name brand. He has so many items from Gap, Polo, Puma, ect. My son has reflux and spits up terribly. Regardless, most babies spit up and half of his clothes are stained.
He is 3 weeks old today. Now any clothes we buy come from Walmart, Carters or Babies R Us. The money saved is much better spent on diapers, wipes and formula.
If you insist on having name brand you could try a consignment shop. Otherwise, you are probably better off only buying name brand for special occasions.
All my baby’s clothes are name brand, but that is because my mother works for a department store and gets amazing deals and discounts. Otherwise, I would probably stick to mostly Carters and Circo unless I really fell in love with an outfit.
I wouldn’t want to spend 25 dollars, but 10 dollars would be alright. I’d rather get the baby clothes from Walmart or something like that since they will out grow it in no time. If you plan on having another baby and the clothes are kind of neutral then why not spend a little more? All my husband’s relatives are buying 2nd hand baby clothes.
I buy ALL brands but only when they are on sale. I pick up Tshirts at Dillards for 2 dollars! I’ve purchased numerous items at Gymboree when they have their Circle of Friends discount (an additional 30% off the entire store including sales racks). I get Tshirts at Target for $1.49! I’ve also picked up several bargains at Babies or Toys R Us. Kohl’s has great kid’s items on sale too (up to 80% off). So, I do like brand name clothing but only at CHEAP prices! As for quality, I really haven’t noticed that much difference between a Gymboree tshirt and a Target tshirt. They all seem to wash and wear the same.
I agree with you…. some of that stuff is SUPER cute, but man… I can’t fork over that much for an item my son isn’t going to wear for very long. I think it’s appropriate every once in a while, if you just LOVE the item….or if you find the perfect picture outfit or something… but seriously…. babies could care less what they are dressed in.
I do like to shop at consignment shops…. I got 11 outfits and 8 pairs of pants for my son yesterday for less than $50…. all are in perfect hardly worn condition….and more than half of those items were name brand like Ralph Lauren, Gap, Gymboree, Children’s Place, etc. The most expensive item I bought for him cost a whopping $3.50….seriously that’s the way to go!!
I’ve also found that the cheaper stuff is sized better….. Carter’s stuff for instance almost seems to grow with my son… he can still fit in most of his 0-3 month clothes and he’s a healthy 17lb, 6 month old little boy. Also…. my FAVORITE pair of pants that he has are Baby George Organic from Walmart…. they are 0-3 months and are just now getting snug (so sad about that)…they’re super cute and have been worn a million times and still look brand new!
As for the "I can afford it" comment…….. shame on you for wasting your money… put it in the bank and let your child use it for college or a trust fund or something someday. I guarantee you they’ll appreciate that much more later in life than knowing they always wore name brand baby clothes.
I buy Baby Gap if there is a really good sale. I don’t even go into Gymboree, even their sells are overpriced. It is pretty much a waste of money because babies grow out of their clothes so fast. If ryou really like some of the clothes try shopping at those stores when they have their end of season sales and shop for next year. You could find clothes for two and three dollars.
I only do it when I find really really good sales. Sometimes I buy for the next year knowing about what size they should be in by then. You can get great end of season sales but you have to plan a little and take into consideration your child’s general growth rate.
I would never spend 10-25 on a t-shirt. I don’t think it is right, but if I can get it for a few dollars I am all over it
Yes, I do buy some nicer name brand stuff for my daughter, such as baby gap, gymboree, Janie and Jack and hanna anderson. Most of the time, I buy the stuff on sale or off the clearance rack. I don’t mind paying more for a nice outfit for a special occasion.
I have been lucky selling some of her nicer name brand stuff and her pediped shoes on ebay or craigslist
she also has plenty of Carter’s clothes also
i did with my daughter…i bought her ALOT of clothes from gymboree but I would also buy off season stuff so it was cheaper and would buy a couple sizes larger than she was so she could wear it longer….but now for my son i’ve been buying walmart and target
My daughter has some brand name stuff but it was all either garage sale / hand-me-down / or consignment.
It is fun to buy a really cute outfit for special occasions but I don’t’ think I’d spend that kind of money all the time. Your baby won’t care and there are SO many cute clothes out there, some of my cutest outfits are hand-me-downs or garage sale buys.
Baby Gap has a nice sale rack… but you can find almost the same things for half the price at Old Navy. Gymboree IS very overpriced even if their stuff is adorable. I happen to like the Children’s place as well – especially the footie PJ’s. And most of these are fairly moderate compared to a Denny’s or some of the other REALLY high end stores that I don’t step foot into unless somebody gives me a gift card!

When my baby can stay in an outfit for morethan just a couple wears, then I will think about name brands. 1 nice outfit may be worth it like for pics, but thats it.
