Do baby clothes have to be fire-resistant by law?

I make and sell baby items and a good friend of mine warned me that he thought there was a law against selling any baby clothing that was not fire-resistant?
If anyone has any information or links, it would be very much appreciated!!!

fire resistant is not fire proof. there is a difference. second, the reason you need this is because children have less ability to protect themselves in case they are around dangerous flames, or appreciate the danger of accidental fires.

Response to wendy h: oh, as in there are no fireplaces or stove tops or candles or open fires anywhere now right? do you know anything about strict product liability? and by the way it’s federal law. in fact this was in your own link "Fact 10: U.S. governmental flammability laws and rules govern wearing apparel, but do not mean that clothes will not burn."

"What is the purpose of the children’s sleepwear
flammability standards?
To protect children from burns, these rules require that
children’s sleepwear must be flame resistant and selfextinguish
if a flame from a candle, match, lighter or a
similar item causes it to catch fire. The rules cover all
children’s sleepwear above size 9 months and up to
size 14 and require that
(1) the fabric and garments must pass certain
flammability tests; or
(2) be "tight fitting" as defined by specified
dimensions.

The regulations are published in the Code of Federal
Regulations in Title 16, Part 1615 for children’s
sleepwear sized above 9 months and up to 6X, and in

If baby clothes had to be fire resistant then it would be illegal to sell clothes made from wool, cotton and most other natural materials. Only a few specific synthetic fabrics could be used.
Certain fabrics are highly flammable and melt horrifically when exposed to a single spark, I would assume it is these HIGHLY flammable materials are the ones which are restricted.
Why would baby clothes have to be fire proof? In case you light ur kid on fire??? Do adult clothes have to be fire resistant….NO! so neither do baby clothes. They are no laws stating this at all. Your friend was just pulling your chain.
This relates to years ago when people used to have open fires and long nightgowns.
