Bathing question again…alone when they can swim?
Why would someone say when the child can swim that they can bathe alone? How deep ARE other peoples’ bathtubs?? Drowning in a tub has nothing to do with capability to swim. They have young infant swim classes, but a child that age certainly couldn’t run bathwater and not get burned, or get in/out of the tub okay…what am I missing?

A person, of any size, can drown in an inch of water. It doesn’t take much. The standard rule, is that a child under the age of 3 should NEVER bathe alone. There are still so many things that can happen. They could slip and fall.. they could hit their head. While this could happen to anyone, it’s more likely to happen with a smaller child who is not yet aware of cause and effect.
I think that the person that said a child who can swim can bathe alone was a little misinformed. You’re right, the ability to swim has nothing to do with drowning in a bath tub. It’s about panic.. and a person that panics when they fall in the tub is going to get hurt, it doesn’t matter if they can swim or not.
no they might slip and bang their head and it dosnt take a lot of water to drown a child
HUH?
A baby/toddler should NEVER be left alone in a tub!! They could stand up and slip and bonk their precious heads..
I think once they are past the 1st grade you can leave them for small amounts of time, but you still have to check in on them.
they would say that because they are ignorant. i dont think youre the one missing anything.
You are right, and for all the common-sense reasons you stated.
it doesn’t have to do with depth..even the best swimmer could bang his/her head, fall, and drown in an inch of water cz they lost consciousness!
teach them how to wash themselves at an early age but keep monitoring them till they’re old enough to handle it all alone. not as old as 9 and 10 though :s
I believe that a child can bathe alone when that child is taught and understands the functions and dangers of a bath room/tub.
nothing no child should be left alone to bathe even if they can swim a person can drown in an inch of water and tubs can be slippery and cause them to slip and hit their head knocking them out and causing a drowning. And if you have kids like me they get into everything they can in the tub if you leave them for one minute i say when you feel comfortable enough to leave them to bathe alone then you do that every person is different and thinks differently but some think alike so their are some parents out here that think like you do….
