A question to twin mothers?
I am pregnant with twins and i was wondering if i need to buy preemie clothing for when my twins are born. I have heard that twins sometimes come early and are also sometimes smaller than a single baby.
Did you have to buy premmie stuff for yours?
Also should i get a pack of premmie diapers?
if so how much premmie clothes and diapers do i need?

My daughter was 8lbs and could have worn preemie clothes for a couple of weeks. The outfit we took her home in was huge on her.
I would wait and at least get a weight estimation closer to your due date. A friend of mine had twin boys that were both 7lbs. at birth. Not every set of twins is tiny!
Ok I do not have twins but my niece and nephew are twins, and so I do have experience with them. Preemie clothes are a good idea, my niece and nephew were 37 week twins and they we 6lb 5 and 5lb 12 so good size for twins but still they worn preemie for about a month. Also as for diapers yes I would have at least a couple packs on hand, and buy tons of everything…we bought my sister tons of things but she went thru things like crazy so really stock up!! Good Luck!!
Buy a few preemie outfits but not too many, they will outgrow them quickly.
Me and my twin sister were born at 36 weeks and she was 3 1/2lbs and I was 6lbs. She wore 0000 clothes (Australian) and when born could use a face cloth/washer as a nappy.
So yeah, I suggest preemie clothes.
Sorry that is all I can help with.
Congratulations and good luck!
Well.. its hard to tell.. I have triplets and they were all in premmie clothes and diapers for a month or so..
I am in a multiples group and they have a lot of preemie clothes they "pass around" because you don’t need them very long generally. So I would look into that..
As for the diapers.. it wouldn’t hurt you to buy a pack just in case.. and you could exchange them later if you didn’t need them..
I wouldn’t go over board.. one pack of diapers and maybe two or 3 outfits.. and some onsies.. they will be out of preemie in no time..
*** Oh and some multiples parents I know – their babies were never in preemie..
Sorry about the first response didnt go thru all the way. Oppps.
First off Congrats!!! I’m the mom of 6 month old twin girls. My girls were born 6 weeks early and were tiny. 3.3 lbs and 3.8 lbs. I had the hardest time finding preemie anything!! I finally found a "coming home" outfit at Walmart. They carry some preemie things. Stick with newborn sizes with the onesies. They will be big but before you know it the boys will be fitting into them and then some! = ) As for diapers the hospital will give you some. I could only find Huggies preemie diapers and not everyone carried those either. Once your angels arrive write the different diaper companies telling them you had twins and they will send you a ton of coupons!! ( They will want a copy of the hospital papers or birth certificate ) Check out the websites.
I wish you and your little angels the best. Twins are amazing and at the same time alot of work, but all worth it.
Best wishes
I’m having twins now and according to the measurements done at the regular scans, my babies are ahead of schedule and putting on weight nicely. In fact they were 4lb each (roughly) at 32 weeks when the average is about 3lb so I’d say they will. probably be normal sized babies.
Ask them when you go for your next scan if they could estimate the weight going by the measurements. Remember it can be out by about a pound so they may have been on track at 3lb or ahead at 5lb.
If your twins are identical, it is likely that they will be smaller if there is only one placenta as they are sharing 1 sac. Mine are fraternal so they have a placenta each and each have they’re own sac, hence the size.
Buy a couple of early baby clothes, but they grow so quick that it really doesn’t matter if the clothes are a little too big. Buy clothes without feet so that if they are long but otherwise fit into early baby clothes, they won’t be wasted. a pack of early baby babygrows and a pack of newborn babygrows for hospital will be good for the hospital, but at home or out and about, it won’t matter and they won’t care in the hospital.
We have early baby clothes (1 pack of babygrows and an outfit each) and newborn clothes and there is really very little size difference so we have gone for mostly newborn things and 0-3 for when they get a bit bigger.
There is a higher risk of preterm labour with twins but that doesn’t necessarily mean yours will come early so if you do buy preemie clothes make sure you keep the receipts just in case you go further than you think.
My fraternal twins came at 39 weeks plus 4 days and weighed 6lb 10oz and 6lb 8oz.
My identical twins came at 35 weeks plus 2 days and weighed 5lb 4oz and 3lb 10oz.
I have a website called http://twinstips.com there is plenty of information for readers plus a social networking site for twin mums, expecting and parenting. No membership fees all free.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON PREEMIE THINGS, unless they are like really premature. My twins were born at 38 weeks weighing 5.10 and 5.12. I think I had one preemie onesie that they both wore once or twice and then outgrew. Your money would be much better spent buying newborn and 0-3 month outfits. They will outgrow everything so fast.
Same goes for the diapers. Buy newborn diapers, they may be a little bit big but they hold a lot more pee and poop, there are more to a pack and they are better worth your money.
